trout fishing

Postby mallardchaser » Thu Jul 12, 2001 10:47 am

I have been a bass fisherman for many years and had friends tell me I was missing out on the specs and reds. I finally went to SW LA, lake charles area, 2 weeks ago and had a hell of a good time. We caught the sheeit out of the trout. I was wondering what the trout fishing was like on the MS coast. We used jigs, I had friends go and use live bait, which I don't think would be as much fun. We fished a large "lake" off the gulf.
we spotted "slicks" where the baitfish were and caught them. Is that a similiar method for MS trout or is it more grass fishing or submerged points (i've been reading a little about it?)
Would anyone be interested in trading a deer hunt, yes I said deer hunt (duck club is kinda crowded already), for a spec/red trip.
I have a great deer camp in SW miss. that i never go to.

I'll take you out near Louisiana any time. I don't know that much about fishin' for them in MS as I have never done it. I like to fish oyster beds and points and rigs. Beaches tend to be great this time of year cause the trout are comin' in to spawn and feed on all the shrimp in the area. You are right you don't need live bait, can catch trout on plastics all day. There are days where the trout bite aint as good and the live baiters will catch more, but plastics are more fun esp. top water! I know they fish around some of the rivers that flow out into the gulf in MS, but I would think GC or MM would be better info for that. Oh yeah don't get caught up on trout and forget about the redfish, they pull like nothing else.

Every so often, like this past weekend, I need someone to go with me. I fish out of Hopedale, La. The drive to there is comparable to the miss coast or just about anywhere else in La., from southwest Miss. I wound up going in my buddy's boat and there were four of us. His boat is smaller than mine so I would have preferred to take mine instead. Lately, we have taken to leaving at a reasonable hour saturday morning, fishing that afternoon and night, and coming back. It is a less expensive trip that way.

Trips are confirmed on short notice for a variety of reasons, foremost being the wind/weather. If you would like to go sometime and are ususally available on short notice, email your info to me.
