MSU forward named unanimous All-SEC First Team
By Ian R. Rapoport
STARKVILLE — Lawrence Roberts has been named a unanimous All-SEC selection by the Associated Press for the second season in a row.
But the Mississippi State power forward was not able to become the first player to earn back-to-back conference player of the year honors since Arkansas' Corliss Williamson did it in 1994 and 1995. Instead, LSU forward Brandon Bass was named player of the year.
Roberts, the SEC's leading rebounder, and Bass were the only two unanimous selections. Alabama forward Kennedy Winston, Kentucky's Chuck Hayes and Florida's Anthony Roberson, the SEC's leading scorer, were the other picks on the team of five.
Kentucky's Tubby Smith was named coach of the year and LSU's Glenn "Big Baby" Davis was the newcomer of the year.
Hayes, Roberts, Winston and Bass were preseason All-SEC selections. Roberts was the preseason player of the year after he earned the award for the 2003-04 season.
No other Mississippi State or Ole Miss player was honored by the AP. Alabama earned the most picks with five players on the three All-SEC teams.
Roberts was third in the SEC in points with 17.3 and averaged 11.1 rebounds — first by more than two rebounds per game. He played in just 28 of 30 possible games. He missed the opener for an NCAA-mandated one-game suspension and sat out the second game with a broken nose.
Bass finished with 17.5 points per game and 8.8 rebounds.
The second team was made up of Arkansas' Ronnie Brewer, Davis, Florida's David Lee, Alabama's Earnest Shelton, and UK's Kelenna Azubuike.
Picked for the third team was Alabama's trio of Chuck Davis, Jermareo Davidson, and Ronald Steele, South Carolina's Carlos Powell, Kentucky's Patrick Sparks, and Auburn's Toney Douglas.

In other news...
Crimson Tide junior forward Kennedy Winston was named First Team All-SEC. Senior guard Earnest Shelton was named Second Team All-SEC, and three Alabama players, junior forward Chuck Davis, freshman point guard Ron Steele and sophomore center Jermareo Davidson were among the five league players voted All-SEC Third Team.
It is believed to be the first time all five starters at one league school have been voted to the AP All-SEC team since 1966 and only the third time ever. In 1949 and in 1966 Kentucky had five players named AP All-SEC.
Greenhead, I'm gonna have to call "Bonehead" on that last post of your's!
Bass deserved it. He straight up handled Roberts last week in Starkville. Our team punked out this year. All those awards were theirs to lose...which they promptly DID!
I'll agree Power should have been first or second team. But he didn't play worth a crap from mid point of the season on. He's a nice guy and everything, but he choked along with the rest of the team
At least we're not inbreds from Alabama

Bonehead huh?
If anyone "deserved" it.......it was Roberson from Fla. If Bass didn't have Davis he wouldn't have won it. If Campbell had stepped up his game it would've helped Roberts tremendously. Bass saw one on one matchups all season due to big baby being in the paint, Roberts didn't have that luxury. Roberts put double-double after double-double, playing the entire game in double and triple teams. As for Power, he choked in one game, the last one. When Frazier went down he started knocking everything down in sight, let the team several times in scoring.

Well, I thought about going to alducks, but the only problem is I dont hunt ducks in Alabama. I enjoy my duck hunting in MS. Almost as much as I enjoy riding through the state in my AL tag and infuriating folks like yourself. Just think, if you play your cards right with me, I might even take you on a good duck hunt in the MS delta. You sound like you could use one..
Besides, you guys need someone on here to keep you in check. Not to mention, you'd be bored to tears just talking about OM and M$U all day.
