so glad to see DeltaDuck shootin so well.. at one time i felt i swung the baddest smooth bore in MS.. but even i realalize that my ability to get on target is gettin slower each year... i think that between the ages of 18 and 30 were my best years... maybe because i shot more and eye sight was some what keener and reflexes had to be better than today.. but the bottom line is, I ENJOY HUNTIN MORE NOW THAN EVER.... the ducks just have a better chance.....haha.... what is ya'lls thought??

Judge, this is only going to be my fourth duck season. I have dove hunted for about 15 years off and on never really shooting very well. I have always been able to shoot a rifle But i had a big problem shooting flying objects with a shootgun. I tried many times to hit them damn orange discs but not the way i wanted-two years ago i decided I was going to get alot better than I was- went out bought a hand thrower and four cases of clay birds. within 30-40 shots I was getting pretty good- I have a cousin that never shot birds or anything picked up the shotgun and DUSTED the first 15 without a miss!
I could not believe it-blew my mind-now we dove hunt together-so I would say this year at 30 will be my prime! I take a gun with me evertime i go to my uncles and shoot the crap out of starlings--all it comes down 2 is practice.. It was just a mental block for me! kinda like buck fever!

Never was a real good wing shot. Some people are just better than others. As I get older the body is not as good as it once was. I think that you are right judge, 20-30 is prime.

I think it's all practice. When I was like 8-17 anything that came near me was in pretty big trouble. That was when I was little and was always runnin' around fields jump shootin' things and just shooting anything I could get my hands on. Then I progressed to guiding and stuff. Then I went to college and took up deer hunting for a little while along w/ duckin' and didn't practice shooting. It's been the worst mistake I have ever made. Can't hit the broad side of a barn now as anyone at the picnic can attest to, but then again neither can GH22! So I just think it's your amount of practice however some people are more gifted at it like anything else. like my dad for instance, he can shoot like nothin' I ever seen, first set of teal in durin' teal season last year, he hadn't shot in a year, a triple, (one with each shot) now that's freakin' amazing. Some people are just plain good at it. Like I'd imagine although they work at it a lot, GC and Delta Duck are good natural shooters too. Just my 2 cents.

I'm 37 I hope I have not made it to my prime. I've got a 2 and 6 year old I've got to keep up with.

took me 37 years even to grow up, a man aint worth a damn till he's at least 30. them first 30 are for buying stupid toy's, then you have children and buy the same toy's over again. life is really to short.

I'm 40 and have two boys following dad's waterfowling footsteps. One is age 12 (shoots a 20 ga. pretty well) and the other is 7 (shoots my Ithaca .410 that I've had since I was 7). The 12 yr old may get an 870 Express Mag in 12 ga for Christmas.
I was a better shot in my teens/early twenties but that was because I went hunting every afternoon after school with friends. To you young folks, there once was a time when you could keep your gun in your vehicle gunrack (on school property) and hop in your truck after school to go hunting. I know some small towns still live like that but my kids will never know that freedom living in a suburb of Birmingham.
Sometimes it's a pain just to find a place to shoot clays around here!!!

Isn't Tannehill pretty close to you, MDD? They have a lot of big shoots there, near Talladega.

Well, I'm 41 and without question shooting better than ever before. That may be because I shoot around 150-200 targets each weekend, minimum. Practice does help....

Tanneyhill is about 15 miles west of me and Talladega is about 50 miles east of me. I didn't know they had shooting at Tanneyhill. I'll have to check that out.
Thanks for the tip GC!

MSU Duck Dawg, I used to live in Leeds for a short time. Tanneyhill has clays and so does a club over by the dog track near 20 and 459. the guys at work used to go to both. Not sure about sporting at the one by dogtrack. baldduck

Judge I was surprised to read your statement. I have just turned thirty and hopefully I am not headed down hill, however I can not question the years of wisdom that come after 30 as I am not yet there. I would venture to guess for myself that it will be from 25 to 40 as I get better every day at picking my shots and growing accustomed to those I am hunting with and the shots they will take. Jeff, I hear ya about those dawm skeet, sure wish those things had wings..... Just get em in close and the rest will work itself out for ya...

For years I thought something was wrong with me (my wife still does) but everyone in my family could wing shoot better than me. Then when I turned 20 I got an 1187 and Ive been dead eye ever since. Dont know till this day if it was me getting older and calming down or the gun but I keep getting older and I still shoot the same gun and I keep getting better.

Well, I'm 33 and I just keep getting better and better. Of course when you start as bad as I used to be that doesn't mean that I'm great. I'm worried that my wife may outshoot me soon, she looked like a natural yesterday, shooting skeet for the 1st time.

Hey Baldduck - Thanks for the link! That will get me where I need to go. I'll go check out Tanneyhill this Saturday.
