Bush to cut farmer subsities?

Bush proposes to cut 2.5 billion in agriculture! Do yall think something like this will go through?

Its either raise our taxes or start cutting stuff. The Farm Bill isn't the only thing being cut. I'm just afraid that cotton and rice will be targeted for stiffer cuts than the other commodities. As many of you know rice and cotton pay the bills for a lot of folks in Mississippi. I'm hoping for a straight cut across the board so that one commodity isn't hurt really bad.

Are we jealous? Do you realize most farmers put up everything they own every year to farm? If farm subsidies go down, lease prices may go up. Most peple that have finer things, are in debt out their butt. Takes money to make money.

Yes, we can't have those gready SOB farmers raping the system. This type mentality pisses me off. "@#$%#", with the exception of the past two years, no one "made a killing" in my part of the world. A farmer would have been better off taking his production loan money to the casino. I have been out of farming for 18 year now. As much as I like the way of life, there is no way in hell I would ever get back in the farming business. To insinuate that farmers are getting rich off the system is total bullchit.

That money to the farmers spreads out to the surrounding communities. It helps pay labor on the farm, gins, compresses, gas stations, tire shops, parts house, ect. These workers go to the grocery stores and other shops around town to spend their money. I farm, and I can promise you I spend all of the government payment on my farm.

Without government payments to the farmers the Delta would be a big mud hole.

From what i understand we are gonna have to cut back(or eliminate) on the subsidies provided for crops at the harvest end because of the law suit filed against the U.S. in the world trade courts. I think the gov't subsidies are gonna be more geared to the environmental side in the future (ditch programs, runoff of P and N control, erosion control, etc.)

The World Trade Org. ruling is a bunch of crap. Britian, China, and Japan all have subsities. I believe we will get the ruling over turned.

Not only that but farmers are having to pay back a coutercyclical payment from 2003. It works out to about .30 per 100 weight. Most of my farmers are talking 20k to as much as 200k. If they don't voluntarily pay this back the Gov't will deduct this from any future payments.

This is pretty serious because a lot of loan application had been made before this repay came out. My accountant said he had over 50 applications to redo.

The cuts still have to make it through Congress. Senator Cochran has said he will not support the cuts. While he is no longer Chairman of the Ag Committee, he's still carries a lot of weight.

Easy thar, I got alota buddies that farm and bust their booty for what they got. I also see alot of farmers gettin' rich (or waaaaaaay over their heads) on a daily basis. I just done seen alot of "hanky" stuff goin on around that livelihood. Ya know we just put one of them hard workin boys in the Fed. program for what he was doin with the money.

boys let me tell yall one thing about farming it is no easy life and the sobs you see driving all these new vehicles and big houses are the farmers whos families already have money from many years ago and if the the subsities do get cut i know i will be put out of business and a whole lot of people will be looking for other employment i have been farming with my father for a while and this is my first year to go out by myself and for these payments to get cut is the last thing i need. there is just no way to survive on 50 cent cotton and five dollar beans anymore without these payments
