Newbies?

Did any of you have the opportunity to introduce a newbie to hunting this year. I was fortunate enough to carry 2 first timers and 5 or 6 novices along. It gives you a whole new perspective on things when you go from hunting with the guys you typically hunt with, to carrying somebody who is new to the sport.
Surprisingly, one of the newbies I took was my girlfriend. She took to it the first trip, and stuck it out throught the whole season. Wind, rain, cold, it didn't matter. I wasn't sure how she would handle it, but she did. I was surprised. And out of it all, I got a new huntin buddy.
If you didn't get the chance to do it this year, I strongly suggest that you take the chance to introduce somebody to it next year. It's well worth it.

:? :? You may have messed up taking the girlfriend... in ten years when she is your wife, hunting is the only viable excuse to get away and out of the house, now she is gonna wanna go....JK thats great

Took a couple myself (but not my GF)

Got to watch a twelve year old boy from Maryland on his first duck hunt. He killed his first duck (a bluebill drake). I have never seen someone so proud of a bluebill before.

That weekend he also took his firs deer and his first squirell

It is great to see new people in the sport, I can guarantee that he will be back for more.

i took one newbie this year...we did not shoot a single duck, but shot one time at ducks a little outta range (not skybusting, but outside the decoys a little) and he was hooked! We had a great time

I am not a newbie but i am just getting back into it. Prior to this year my duckhunting had only been floating the river shooting wood ducks. I got out of hunting between raising 3 girls on my own and getting a shop off the ground i really did not have much time for it, not to mention that boat racin thing. But my buddy convienced me to go with him this year. It was the first time With decoys calls and the whole nine. We killed a few but more important I looked a that wook duck mounted on my office wall with the tag, fall 1985 on it and realized I have been out of highschool nearly 20 years and have missed out on hunting for way too long, it seems like yesterday. I am hooked again, We are hitting it hard next year and the ones to follow. This sites has lots of great info and thanks to all. It is hard to make people believe that standing in knee deep water in 29 deg rain is fun, but it sure is.

i hear what you're steppin in. it's great ain't it to introduce someone to the world. years ago i introduced my girlfriend to the sport. it was our first date.. she's turned out to be a dang good gunner. she can flat out smoke a duck.... we're still working on doves though.. i found out the main 2 things is they need a light gun. mine picked out a beretta so i advise you to take her to walmart. and #2 got to keep them warm.. other than that they turn out to be alot of fun to hunt with. also... if they like it.. you can buy anything you want to hunt with and they don't care.. we'll be gettin hitched in a couple months and i'll keep you updated of if anything changes. i've always enjoyed being the host. i've gotta group of kids we're taking in the morning.this aught to be a blast huh.

duxfaerme... you are right about the getting ragged. after i figured out mine could out shoot my buddies i ended all that. i showed up one morning without my gun. they all laughed and said " i guess ya'll ain't planning on eating ducks tonight huh" i made six 20 dollar bets that morning with em. they don't talk trash no more. she killed hers limit, my limit, and one other guys limit. he has now just about stopped hunting with us because, 4 years later, that still comes up in the blind. the only down fall is this...

I was able to take 3 newcomers this year. I think i enjoyed seeing the look on there faces when the ducks started to come in and they still couldn't see them. After that hunt I think there was only one hunt when I went and they weren't with me. One of the guy got double banded bird. Made me sick but I was proud for him.
