Skillet hunting.......

with the ducks being a little slow i chose to train my teenage labs how to hunt rabbits, squirrels and quail.. i took a stick and drew a picture of a rabbit to show them what we were after... in no time at all my female lab brought me a mole.... had to show her the ear difference...haha... i did get one rabbit and was suprized to see them water dogs get in a thicket... got one squirrel and had them lookin up trees rest of the day...
Total harvest : i rabbit
1 squirrel
4 doves
1 crow
1 mole
enjoyed shootin the little 20 ga. sideXside.

Guy I used to work for said he once had a lab that would bring back bullfrogs after he shot 'em!

i checked the Blue Book values on 14 year old duck dogs, excellant shape for age- 500 bucks.....
if he will bark on the tree at a squirrel, 1000 bucks.... HUMMMM....
i may be in the wrong business....haha.....

Judge you sound like my kind of hunter, if at first you dont succeed try something else! Labs are amazing dogs in what they will catch on to. Mine is five years old and has never done anything but duck hunt. However, I am a policeman one day iI decided to work him with the narcotics dogs for giggles and now he is a jam-up detector dog as well. Took him about 2hrs to catch on. If only my wife and kids were so trainable!!!

Hey Judge I noticed your posts come from Walnut, MS. I deer hunt right down the road from you in Michigan City! Wolfe river cuts through the back of our property, and every once in a while when the little river gets out our deer woods fill up w/mallards!! Been out plenty of times this year but no ducks yet.

hey Harley, several years back i spent alot of time in the Wolf River bottoms... i caught a 36 lb cat under the bridge on 72 hwy.... that was back in the mid-70's... also that area produced several white spotted deer.... took my first whietail on some property owned by the Doyles....{with a bow....} lots of memories in those bottoms.... there ain't a truck that could haul the squirrels i have took out of them woods.... use to be a prime spot for moonshine......... enjoy that part of the country, it is rich with history.....

Thats a good history lesson on my area, sounds like you have been all around the area I now hunt!! I'm just up river a little piece off Indian Creek Rd. Only been up there a handful of times this year as I been chasin' dem ducks most of the winter down in the delta. I to have had a many a meal @ Cotton Patch Cafe, hated to see it go!!!
