Just wondering what brand decoy you prefer?? And why?? I have 1 dozen of the Herter's solid foam ones, 1 dozen Flambeau's, and 1 dozen G&H's. I like the Herter's foam ones the best because the paint is much more durable than the others. Another question, do you repaint your decoys, or just buy new ones??

Too bad you didn't come to the Picnic...I had 10 Herter's foam decoys (as you described) for sale...'will take $40 for them...'drakes need touch-up painting.

I use G&H decoys for river hunting 'cause their profile and detail are lifelike (although I DO think Flambeau mallard drakes come closer to duplicating the real plumage).
The paint is highly durable and they have a tie-off hook on the front of the keel (to adjust for varying depths of water. The G&H swivle head standard deeks (wigeon, gad, pintail) and magnum mallards are hard to beat for realism, function and durability, if you can stand the money!

We use the cheapest decoys we can get (Flambeau water keels) for ricefield hunting, 'cause numbers are generally more important than detail.

E-mail me, if you're interested in the Herter's...otherwise, they'll be heading to the ricefield, this Fall.

I hunt with Flambeau's weighted keel and a few carrylites. Like the weighted keels better for only a few extra bucks you dont have to set them up after you toss em. I like Flambeaus better cause of price not the cheapest or the most expensive and they hold up. I don't leave mine out. I really can't tell the difference between the types as far pulling in ducks with the same size decoy. I've hunted over carrylites, flambueas and G&H's couldn't tell much difference other than the GH's look a hell of lot better. But I went for the middle of the road. baldduck

I use mostly G&H. Most durable paint. My wife gave me some Herters Millenium Mallards for Christmas. I like them, but the heads want to come off if I don't watch them close.

I hunt Flambeau's myself. I have 5 dozen standard water keel and a dozen magnum water keel. They've served me well for 15 yrs and I clean them every year and touch them up on the beaks, neck band, etc when necessary.

I'd love the be able to afford about 6 dozen of the G & H but the Flambeau work for me.

You can get 500 dozen flambeaus for the price of 1 dozen of those millenium herters. I was lookin at the catalog and saw they were $189 a dz. I almost $#!+ my pants. You can get flambeaus for $29 a dz. and they look good enough.

I have mostly Flambeau dekes but I also own a few G&H. The G&H decoys are great. The Flambeau dekes look good but the past couple of years their paint has not held up worth a crap... If you buy them be prepared to get your brush out after the season ends...... The trick is staying out of sight and not calling too much and the rest will take care of itself no matter what type of dekes you are using. I honestly remember going hunting with my dad and his buddies when I was very little and they used bleach and milk bottles, and they acutally worked! Go figure. RedEyed,

Believe it or not, but I actually remember hunting on Grenada Lake back in the late 60's & early 70's with my dad and other relatives. We didn't use ANY decoys and had a lot of luck in the flooded timber at the upper end of the lake. Of course, that was then and this is now. Things sure seemed a lot simpler way back then!
