Alright, we have beat to death the topic of twirlies this week. However, while reading through these threads it seems the older more experienced duck hunters are dead set against the younger hunters that are coming into the sport. I have been hunting deer for almost 20 years, but at the age of 30 (about 3 years ago) I took up duck hunting.

What if anything do you have against new hunters? Am I reading to much into these threads or is there a general dislike for any of us that are new to the sport of duck hunting.

I sometimes wonder about those younger hunter comments, but for my two cents; Welcome. I think we need younger hunters.

All you have to do to be a old hunter is piss on your hands and throw your wallet in the river, after that you are a season duck hunter... my .25$

I have nothing against a "new" duck hunter...infact, on more than one occasion I have tried to help a newbie. We where all newbies at one time or another, except for Benny...he came out with the ability to lure and kill dux at will ( ) A "seasoned" duck hunters perception of most newbies, not all, is that they are going to try to hunt ducks for a couple of years cuz its the cool thing to do, and then wimp out after a few bad seasons or dunks in the frozen marsh. We also look at jerks that set up on us as newbies...because, who else could be so sorry as to set up within gunshot of somebody you dont know. In short... I welcome newbies, but, dont set up on me or I'm going to kick your butt, or, throw a live snake in your truck while flattening your tires Y'all have a nice day

Don't piss off the old "experienced" duckers in here! These guys know everything, and even make their own rules! They can, and should learn some tact in dealing with new hunters, as deer hunters have been doing for years. To them it's all about other people killing "their" ducks, and ruining "their" hunting, and moving in on "their" spot. I get just as much enjoyment taking others to kill "my" ducks as I did this morning while bringing 5 guest to "my" honey hole that has only been hunted twice this season. Most of them younger guys who just enjoy the action whether they killed a duck or not.

They old guard will never change.........so beware.

the only thing i have against new duck hunters is that they have better eyesight than i do, they can out-walk, out-tote, out-wade, out-shoot and over-all, out-hunt me..... i guess i am kinda pissed at new hunters.....in a jealous kinda way.....guess that is why i prefer to hunt with a new duck hunter....they feel sorry for the old fart and do most of the work....

ain't life good...

seems like the old double edge sword....cuts both ways......we don't want to sport to die out due to lack of interest by the younger generation..the more people interested, the more money organizations collect for habitat .....yet, we don't wanna compete with them for the best hunting spots...more hunters = more boats at the ramps...

I've argued both sides before..just depends on what kinda mood I'm in...

My only gripe is some of 'em are more interested in the kill and the numbers of killed....not the experience of the hunt.

It takes a while to learn to appreciate standing in waist deep froze water, with wet hands, windburn, a sheared prop pin, 1 paddle, with 2 miles left to push the boat, dog, dekes, a sorry-a$$ed buddy with a hole in his waders and a slight case of hypothermia...and oh yeah, you gotta take a dump after gettin' skunked in your best hole.

As I mentioned before. I have hunted deer almost my whole life, think I have probably killed 10 deer in that time frame, not because I couldn't have killed more, I just killed what I could eat.

In fact, I don't kill anything that I don't eat that includes Coyotes, Bobcats, and so on. Just wasn't raised to do that. I fortunaly had a Dad and Uncle that taught me to respect nature and only take what you will eat. I have applied that philosopy to Duck Hunting as well.

For those new hunters, who did not have the oppurtunity to learn how to repect nature, shouldn't those who are more experienced help those less experienced learn to respect nature.

Instead of destroying someone's property or "whipping thier butts", shouldn't you teach them how to be better sportsman? After all if they see you acting this way, then they are just going to continue the trend.

Seems most experienced hunters seem to choose "old school" ways of thought when it comes to hunting.

I personally would like to have the $$$ to buy these new decoys and top-of-line products.

Spin away in my book. I've seen ducks go to them, and I've also seen them all fly away after firing 3 shots!!!!

A lot of the problem with statements about one group or another is that people tend to stereotype a particular group (whether they associate with that group or attempting to disassociatethemselves from that group).......it's a dangerous thing.....lumping everybody in the same group without making a clear distinction..........

See.......it's easy to stereotype certain groups.....as in the example above.
But I have some thoughts on this subject and will try to share them when I get a moment.......because I think some of the labels folks place on young hunters are extremely unfair. Like someone said.....we all started somewhere.

Until then.......be careful not to put ALL of us 'older, more experienced duck hunters' in 'THE older, more experienced' group, until you have a chance to get to know me a little better........because, while I may be older and/or more experienced than some.....both of those terms are relative but not necessarily related to each other.......I might not necessarily 'fit' into that group that considers young hunters a problem.

But I'm glad you brought that question up...it'll be interesting to see what some of the response are.......

ok i dont have anything against " new " hunters if they wouldnt act like they know " IT ALL " . Sit back and learn the way we all did. The day you stop and listen, is the day you will learn.
