Hwy 12 Area Report

After Santa visited my son for the 3rd time in 3 days (parents' house, my house, in'laws), I took a drive along Hwy 12 from Hollandale to Belzoni over to Hwy 49 just north of Eden. Lots of water, a lot less ducks. I talked to a farmer last night who got a letter from the COE in Vicksburg over the weekend, and JUST in the Sunflower & Yazoo river basins, there is over 800,000 acres under water. Earlier this morning I saw more bird activity than the late afternoon run. I saw a few thousand comorants, 4 BIG groups of snows/geese, 2 BIG groups of big ducks on the water (one I got up), and many more smaller pockets of big ducks. I saw a few thousand high flyers of all types. Is this a good sign? With the massive front coming through, surely this is going to push lots of ducks our way. But with all the water, it sounds like it's going to definately call for more "hunting". From the same sources of farmers in that part of the delta, they said this water is going to hold for a while due to the vast amount and that there is an expected 10 foot river surge coming from upstream. I hope all of this isn't completely true. Any other reports?
