Taking 6yr old daughter this week-any hints?

Postby CRAWDUCK » Sun Dec 23, 2001 10:00 am

Taking my 6 year old daughter to the blind for the first time this week, looking for any hints to make it as fun as possible. She has been dove hunting for 3 years with me and loves it! She started deer hunting with me this season and is having a blast. She now wants to go "catch some ducks" as she puts it. She is getting some wadders for X-mas and we will be heading to the blind this week. Any suggestions from fathers who have taken the young ones? Thanks and have a Merry Christmas......

the best fun little scooter had was taking his bb gun and shooting the decoys. that was when he was 6,now he's 8 and really likes to watch the ducks. if its to cold , dont go, almost burnt him out on a cold hunt.

dedicate the whole hunt to her liking... it will be times you will never forget.. as a father of two girls, i remember their eyes lighting up when they spotted ducks... your successful even before you get to the blind... good luck and have fun......

What a good wife that little girl is gonna be for some lucky guy. My son doesnt hunt any more (although he lives very near the DELTA)but when he went with me as a small boy it was the most fun I ever had duck hunting. Keep her warm and let her help as much as you can. If she can help with the decoys..let her. Keep her on the side opposite ejecting hulls and let it be a special hunt for her. I hope you have a great time. Robbie

Da Judge said it!!
Let it be her trip with you tagging along!!
Take those pictures.

My little girl started last year, this year she's only been once. After putting out # 10 decoy, I hear a splash. Yeap in 18" of water how do you fill waders up with water? Put them on a 6 year old.

This first hunt with her will be the best duck hunt of your life. I'm looking forward to my second best duck hunt, When my 2 1/2 year old baby girl gets big enough to go.

Whenever she is ready to go home take her home, the little ones get bored quickly. Over time she will be the one wanting to stay and you'll be the one wanting to go home. Just make sure she has fun. It probably won't make any difference to her if you kill anything or not. She just wants to be with you dad. A great way to make memories that neither of you will ever forget.

As a Father of two girls who used to go hunting with old dad let me tell you this will be a trip that you will treasure for the rest of your life. Be patient and be ready to answer all of her questions. Don't lie to her but you don't have to tell all of the truth ether. I just wish I could trade places with you.
