Onward Store
Has anyone been in there in the last few months? I saw last week that the husband of the owner sent in a letter against the Steel Bayou pumps, and they were taking heat because of it. Then i saw yesterday that they were going to close. Just wondering how much business they were doing before he put his foot in his mouth.
And this place has been dead since Friday.

Well I've been in looney land (California) for a little while, but i returned to the same news. Somehow folks were telling me that Billy (Owner) was against the pumps because he says they will affect his property and wetlands etc.. Perhaps I don't know where his land is, because I am under the impression the pumps would be installed in close proximity to the Steele Bayou Gates and pump the water into the Yazoo River, just like it flows into now.
I would like to know more about this. Also, good, I'm glad people are using their wallet by not supporting his business. (He doesn't need that money anyway).

Re: Onward Store
I’d venture a guess that the store was much more of a hobby than a revenue stream.

It’s old and deep politics on why he’s against it.

Re: Onward Store
The facebook post that i saw was supposedly written by the lady that own/ran it. She did say that it wasn't making any money, so that probably is correct.stang67 wrote:I’d venture a guess that the store was much more of a hobby than a revenue stream.

Re: Onward Store
probably wasn't making any money, but its really going to mess up my post hunt beer and cheeseburger situation if it stays closed.....i'm not too happy about it.
Re: Onward Store
I hadn't been there in years since before the current owners bought it and turned it into a resteraunt. I enjoyed the chicken on a stick from the old place. It's sad to hear it's closing but there ain't a whole lot of folks out there to support it when it's not hunting season

My dad loved those bell pepper burgers.....he'd drive 20 miles out of his way to eat one.

Re: Onward Store
It had been losing money for a long time, a bit too far south for Sharkey county people and too far north for Vicksburg people.
The timing, however, is very suspect. Husband sends out letter against the pumps, people in the area get upset, store closes.
She'd already removed gas pumps recently and that didn't seem to me to be the sign of somebody looking to shut down.

Hate to see that. The store just seems like it is part of the delta. The lunch/sandwich items were good. The supper entrees left a little to be desired though. No business can keep operating at a loss but was hoping they could keep it going for a long time.

Sad to hear. The owners are worth hundreds of millions. They probably got tired of dealing with it.
Re: Onward Store
Just drove by the store about an hour ago.....the whole place looks totally abandoned.

Re: Onward Store
I ended up with the old original onward store sign. Still have it. I approached Molly if she wanted it to hang in the store(it only seemed right). She couldn't have cared less about it. It was almost trashed and I figured it would be cool to have hanging in there. She apparently didn't.
