Does anyone know the name of this flowering vine that is in bloom right now?

I see it on fence lines, hedge lines, etc. it appears to be a rose of some sort. The blooms will persist for about a month.

I’m curious, too. Looks like a blackberry on steroids, blooms and thorns.

That example seems to show clusters of flowers, rather than a single white flower. I’ve seen them in many spots between Vburg and Baton Rouge.

The first ones I noticed were blooming during deer season.

I’m hoping someone who knows will chime in, but I’ll go get a better picture of the leaf structure on Friday because I can’t do it tomorrow.

It may not be the exact species but it otherwise does seem to fit the description. Close don’t count. I want to know what it is called.

I have hard lots of folks complaining about it who are into habitat enhancement in the Midwest. I had gotten the impression it was a shrub, but what I see appears to be a vine. That is almost certainly what I’ve seen, though.

Guy I know from Iowa was crawling around through some of that last year looking for shed antlers and one of the vines popped up and the thorn stuck him in his eyeball He didn't lose his eye, but it took a while for it to heal. Talk about freak accident!!

I'd sure hate to run into a patch of that at o'dark thirty in the morning. Mind cutting me a few sprigs Wildfowler? Looks like an excellent deterrent to plant under my kids' bedroom windows.

I am going to try and pull over and take a better picture of the leaf structure so the botanist here can properly identify.

For intimidation factor, trifoliate orange is a notch or 2 ahead. And devil’s walking stick looks like a weapon from an episode of Vikings.
