Thanks, Redeye had sent me that link and that was my comment...I think i paid $325 for the gun years ago.

But mine has a new bolt, firing pin, and is broken in just right. It will dang near shuck a shell itself.
Plus im partial to the snuff spit/delta mud patina it has on the forearm and stock.

Oh well,

Buying the whole gun, doesn't mean you have to use the whole gun. Buy the gun and use the barrel. Put the action back in case of a rainy day.

I'd do as teul suggested. Buy the gun and slap the barrel on. Keep the receiver for it when it don't won't to work right.

Broke out my 870 this season for nostalgia purposes. I do enjoy that gun when it functions properly. Mine just don't! It has to be the only 870 in the Mississippi delta that is a single shot! Maybe I need to coat it in mud and spit on it a time or two? One day i'm going to take it to someone who can fix it.

So what you are sayin Capt. Call is " better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it".........

I like the way you think sir!!

it may be the only one in a closet in the Delta, but not the only 870 single shot that I know of....the other resides in Brandon.

concur, use the barrel and keep the rest of the new gun for replacement parts...before long, you'll have all the new parts on the old gun and they'll be pretty well broken in by the time you put the last "new" part on, too!

I believe the aforementioned Rankin County SS 870 has been retired....

I wouldn't buy a bucket of dog turds for a nickle with free shipping from Cheaper than dirt. Just my opinion.

Dang! Tell us how you really feel.
Personally, I have had good dealing with them, DoubleP must have had the opposite.

An aftermarket replacement barrel like a Carlson’s will be cheaper than a Remington replacement barrel

It's really more a matter of principle to me. I bought several items from them, and had good luck. But the way they cancelled a ton of orders and then jacked their prices up after those school shootings a few years ago really rubbed me the wrong way.

I was unaware of that.

Yep. I think it was Sandy Hook. You could order a stripped lower receiver for an AR15 or $60-$75 bucks before, and the day after that shooting they cancelled orders and jacked prices up to $200-$250 apiece. Did the same with ammo and mags. Kind of like price gouging if you ask me.
