When putting your decoys out how far in front of the blind do you put them.We used a horseshoe pattern with decoys right outside the blind going out about 35 yards on bothsides.Across the 2 ends of the horseshoe was about 40 yards.Does this sound right because we really couldent get the ducks to set down right in front of us,they were lighting about 30 yds out..any ideas??

Is the wind at your back? If so, maybe you could try pulling the two ends of the horseshoe in a bit...not so far out. Change it up as many times as you need to during the hunt..the ducks will tell you what you need to do, and try to make your blind as inconspicuous as possible.

it all depends on the wind , but we always but decoys about 20- 30 yds from blind. the ducks will land outside of the decoys if the aren't right

You mean 30 yards in front of you? 30 yards out and cupped 10 feet off the water sounds about right. If you mean 30 yards on the OTHER side of the decoys, then that's a problem. Sometimes, the birds just want to be in one spot and you have to pick up and move over a tad instead of adjusting decoys all day.

I like to keep it simple, if they are over the dekes, it is time to smell gunpowder.... so many factors play into set up, remember to do the best you can and Keep it Simple.... good luck.....
