Need a Large Diameter Culvert

Ok, I need, pretty quick at that, a culvert at least 8' diameter up to about 10' would be fine and at least 40' long Where can a fellow obtain such an item and about what you think this item would cost? Need one pretty quickly

We're having a road built on our property, and my records show our largest was a galvanized 48" diameter culvert @ 40' long, costing $2500 plus tax- brand new. Have you thought about the drum from a gas truck? Obviously it'd have to be prepped already, but we put 2 of these prepped units in our creek with dirt over them to allow for logging operations to cross. They were easily 8' diameter and cheaper than dedicated culverts. Moving them would be just as much an operation as any culvert that size. Something to think about...

There's always a guy advertising used culverts in the weekly Tradewinds classifieds. Also check the current issue in the MS Market bulletin.

I can contact our contractor and see if he has better, more immediate info on his pricing, delivery, etc. for you, if it'd help ya out.

Greenhead, I'd be willing to use whatever satisfies the job. I just sold my house and property and I just bought some property and I have 45 days to get all my stuff off of my place now and onto my new place to start building. But I first have to get a road pushed in and an area cleared off to start stacking up some of my stuff and I have to cross a rather large creek. I will need at least 40 length in order to establish the 3:1 side slopes to be able to maintain it. So I need something quick. I believe 8' would do it, but 10' would be better. I'll have about 10' of dirt on top of the pipe when the driveway is done.

Access has been the proverbial turd in the punchbowl of many a nice parcel of land in them hills. Sounds like a fun little issue to work out if the time weren't such a crunch.

We've started using a 1" wall fiberglass pipe on the 6' and larger diameter structures. Its about 30% less $$ than steel, lighter, and comes with a beveled end for joining sticks. Its also supposed to have a greater flow coefficient than corrugated or steel. Sounds like an old 8' rail car might also work pretty good if you can find one. If you're interested in the fiberglass pipe let me know and I can get you in contact with our pipe guy.

Ive bought big tanks (9'-8" x 49 ft long -$10,000 delivered to Carroll County,MS) and flat railroad cars from Mike at Diversified Rail cars in Arkansas and have been very satisfied with his products and delivery.
Im pricing rail cars now for another project and he has railcar lengths from 83 ft to 53 ft.
The 53' to 60 ft are heavy and can tote a load but they are only about 9 ft wide. You can always weld them side by side once in place.

Dont know about structural integrity.........i would have to analyze it but i would go with what i know works such as a railroad bridge or pipe with pipe being my first choice.
Check your math though.........................40 ft long pipe at 8 ft diameter with 2:1 sideslopes and 2 ft of cover leaves you no road width.
1.5 :1 side slope leaves a 10 ft wide road..........

When I did forestry work we used railroad tank cars. For additional length on one protect we welded two together. That's been 20 years ago and they have held up fine.
