a delta NWR

Postby DoublePslayer » Tue Aug 08, 2017 6:26 am

First off, this is not a scouting question, so if you feel the need to remind me about internet scouting, then you can go ahead and skip this question.

That being said, this one would probably be better off in the habitat forum, but oh well. Over the last couple weeks, the powers that be have disked up one of the fields on the side of Hwy 8 near where the grain bins used to be on the refuge. They then flooded it, but i didn't see that they planted anything. What benefit to ducks would you get from that? I guess they flooded it for the upcoming teal season, but i don't understand why they would turn under all that grass seed that was out there growing native.

Could be. I didn't think you could water seed millet like that.

Jap millet can be water seeded. Browntop might could be water seeded too, but I never have tried browntop, only Jap. Could be moist soil management. Disked it to set back succession and watered it to stimulate plant growth.

I see someone took the liberty of changing my post title. Are we really going to be this uppity about it?

I will admit, that is has been some time since those rules came out, which means it has been the same amount of time since i have read them. However, the fact that that i can't even mention a piece of public land by name in casual conversation about habitat methods in the middle of August is pretty dang sad if you ask me. I understand the principle of not making it easy for internet scouting, and i agree with it 100%, but at some point you just have to shake your head and wonder what the world is coming to today.

I did see a good many out there yesterday afternoon, so that makes sense. Is it more for a resting place for the migration, or will they stay there?
