Boat Motor Issue
Boat Motor Issue
I am not very mechanically inclined when it comes to small motors, so I will do the best I can to describe my problem. I have a console steer Xpress with a 25hp Yamaha motor. The motor fires up and runs like a top. When you try and engage the motor in reverse however, it seems as though the "shifter linkage (may be wrong term)" on the throttle cable is just not long enough to fully extend so that the motor will fully lock into reverse, but you can not let it out any more. I have tried two different times to take it by our local marine shop but, they seem like people I do not want to do business with, so I just assume spend my money else where. If any one has any ideas on the problem or knows a good shop it will be much appreciated.
Re: Boat Motor Issue
Have you changed the impeller recently?
Re: Boat Motor Issue
I personally have not done either one of these. I have only had the boat about 2 months.
Re: Boat Motor Issue
Your shift rod jam nuts might have come loose and cause the rod to be out of position.

Try RJ 's. They have always done a good job for my friend and me..........

Re: Boat Motor Issue
Sondance, did they say what was wrong with it? How long did it take to fix? Price? I'm about an hour and a half from Brandon so I'd like to know what to expect before heading down there.
Re: Boat Motor Issue
They did but it was several years ago. I had it fixed while doing some overall service. Had the carb rebuilt. Want to say it was around $250. I had messed with the linkage nut over and over and never could get it right so I just took it to someone who knew what they were doing. In turns of time it really just depends on how busy they are. I suspect right now it's busy
