Residential shop/metal building

Postby dukhntn » Tue Mar 22, 2016 12:34 pm

Thinking about having a shop/metal building built at my place. Nothing fancy, would be used for storage of boat, 4-wheeler, tractor, mower, etc... Looking at a 30x40 with concrete floor. Anyone used someone locally to build one?

Found an ad on craigslist for a company out of arkansas that does this size, with concrete, for around $14k. Seemed a little on the cheap side to me, but I haven't started pricing them yet either.

We just built a 40x80 and 30x40 in Arkansas. Do NOT deal with Nicholas Vandenberg at Metal Men Roofing. He'll be the cheapest around but has ZERO labor force. It's bad when an owner of the building has to help build it from the ground up.

Sounds like a good way to get a discount

depends on if you want red iron frame it just a metal carport style building. I am having large buildings built for 14 a foot now. Smaller would be a few more dollars a foot.

there's a guy out of Pelahatchie, Town and Country Builders that does metal buildings. I purchased a 40x40 pole barn kit from him a couple years and ago and built it myself... don't save a ton of money doing this but I enjoyed the project. I plan on pouring a slab this summer and walling it in. Anyway, give him a call.

Yeah, it was a bad job. There's only so much you can do with bad cut metal and dopehead labor. I never had a clean sheet of metal to work with. They all had to be adjusted and cut. Didn't help matters that the building was out of square almost 5" before I got there. The GC ended up broke 25% of the way into the project and one of our owners ended up purchasing most of the remaining materials necessary to finish the job. He's a helluva salesman over the phone and via email but that first impression in-person REALLY sucks.

That is a nice look building, Greenhead22. You guys obviously put some effort into dressing it out right.

You probably won't be using them in Vicksburg, but don't use Reed's metals. Or at least don't use their install contractors. Buildings are ok, but their installers are as shady and unprofessional as they come.

Thanks, you can see the outside issues upclose. The interior work was flawless between all parties involved. The exterior was the main issue the entire time. The contractor was supposed to break ground in June. He showed up Oct 4th. Building was completed Nov 18. We were all wore out stress wise before opening day ever came around.
