What are the trees with the purple blooms? The family and I are on our way to Memphis and they are everywhere.

Yep, sounds like Eastern Redbud, one of my favorites. I put it ahead of dogwood.

This time of year Hwy 78 now known as I-22 has color everywhere. I hate driving from Tupelo to Memphis except for this time of year.

What about the larger trees with red or dark red blossoms? The bark on these looks kinda like maple, but I see a good many of these trees in locations I wouldn't expect to find maple trees. I haven't looked at any of them up close, just notice them on the roadsides.

Looking around on my route, I see some cottonwoods that meet that description. Dark red flowers. They are long and slender on otherwise bare branches.

May be cottonwood?

are Buckeyes very widespread in our area? I rarely notice them, but probably overlook them?

Thanks.

In fact, the only one I know of sure was in vaiden.

Yes, buckeyes are fairly common, but hardly noticeable except when they are blooming.
