So can someone give me the cliff notes version of duck tagging? I plead the fifth as to whether I have or have not done this in the past.

I think I remember seeing it in that link Rob posted the other day, just scroll through it real fast there should be a broad boldface headings for the Various violation categories..
Cliff notes say you need to attach a tag to your bag for the day that contains the following information:
Your name, your address, your hunting license info, and the location where you harvested, and the species harvested, date and your signature

Only thing I see is that if you give your ducks to someone else or leave them somewhere they need to be tagged. Say I am driving home with son- he has a strap and I have a strap - both people present, they have to be tagged?

I'm sure my judgment is worth as much as you're paying for it, but I'd say you're good with them separated.

Do a search. This topic was pretty much ridden into the ground and then whipped some more a few years ago. I had dog tags made for my duck strap so there ain't no question which ducks belong to me.

Let's take a look at the actual laws:
50 CFR § 20.36 Tagging requirement.
No person shall put or leave any migratory game birds at any place (other than at his personal abode), or in the custody of another person for picking, cleaning, processing, shipping, transportation, or storage (including temporary storage), or for the purpose of having taxidermy services performed, unless such birds have a tag attached, signed by the hunter, stating his address, the total number and species of birds, and the date such birds were killed. Migratory game birds being transported in any vehicle as the personal baggage of the possessor shall not be considered as being in storage or temporary storage.
50 CFR § 20.37 Custody of birds of another.
No person shall receive or have in custody any migratory game birds belonging to another person unless such birds are tagged as required by § 20.36.
50 CFR § 20.40 Gift of migratory game birds.
No person may receive, possess, or give to another, any freshly killed migratory game birds as a gift, except at the personal abodes of the donor or donee, unless such birds have a tag attached, signed by the hunter who took the birds, stating such hunter's address, the total number and species of birds and the date such birds were taken.

I don't see how a man could write you a ticket with that kind of penalty and still be able to look at himself in the mirror. Please tell me that you meant 1k. A $10,000 fine could put a man and his family in some seriously financial trouble.

I hunt the Mississippi river and crossed state lines 5 times from hunting area to boat ramp Burned me I have read the "actual laws" and have a much better understanding of them

The problem...... If The man wants to write you a ticket, he can!
Right and wrong may never enter the equation.

Tagging issues alone don't cost you 10k...taking UC'S on a hunt does. Because when that occurs, all the violations are revealed (not just tagging).
