Farming question?

The guy that farms our delta lease only discs parts of the fields after the beans / corn are cut....and it's just random parts of the fields every year...I guess I figured he would disc 100% of the fields or none the fields but not just random areas....probably a stupid question but what's the reason for doing it like that?

I think he (the farmer) would be the one to tell you for sure, but maybe those particular areas have weed problems.
I know this...........It's a very common thing these days & it drives us duck hunters crazy!

Maybe they are disking areas that were rutted up over the course of the year. Can't think of a good reason to till a portion of a field.

maybe checking moisture content of underlying soil in certain areas? I'm reaching...

Probably this or he's plowing just the portion that floods so that the stalks don't float away and pile up. Floodwater will push the stalks into large piles and make a mess or clog up drainage ditches.
