New Mexico pronghorn trip (pic heavy)

Postby Greenhead329 » Wed Sep 16, 2015 7:59 pm

Been back about a week and a half . Went with a buddy out to New Mexico for antelope . I've wanted one of those critters ever since I saw them.
We decided to drive straight through and get there early and spend a couple of extra days scouting .
Process of scouting ran into some of his old friends and subsequently got invited Prarie dog shooting.

I've never done that as well and yes it was as much fun as everyone says it was.

Sunset on first day was beautiful

Second day was truly spent scouting ... No Prarie dog shooting unfortunately. Saw a couple of nice bucks.. Talk of the locals was how high the wild sunflowers were. Everyone worried about winter.. Old farmers say the sunflowers indicate how much snow is coming

That night after supper prior to bed; read some required reading material for a western hunt

Next morning was tracking a group of 13 bucks.. All juvenile males..decided to pass on them . Looked to my left and there were 2 bucks in a stare off contest. Sized them up for awhile..crept within 200 yards of the bucks... Wound up spooking the smaller buck.. Managed to get a shot off at the lone buck...
My heart sank as I realized I misjudged and overshot him .. He took off running ..the term "speed goat" doesn't do them justice. I gave a sharp whistle and he stopped to look at the source.. This time I held right on him and squeezed the trigger slowly (as fast as I could lol).. And with the shot he dropped instantly

Dude...Why'd you make the homeless guy pay for supper?

Congratulations! Enjoyed the pics. I would like to hunt them too. Can't say why I have the interest. It could be more of a reason to go see the county where the antelope roam more so than the killing. Ha!

You could probably set up at the Clarksdale Kroger store and shoot rats all night.

Yea, put an add in the paper about double EBT points after 5PM and you'll have all the hood rats you want to shoot at.
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Limitless supply of Rats and hood rats for sure. I would have to guess Clarksdale has the only Kroger ever shut down due to rat crap, rat nests and mice, etc.

Prairie dogs are probably smarter than both of the local species.

Congrats again to the original poster on the successful trip out west.

Same here. Would love to take a trip to somewhere new like that with main reason being new sites and with the second reason of the trip being to take an animal.
