Food grade 55 gallon metal barrel

Postby edub20 » Tue Jun 16, 2015 6:50 am

I'm looking for a food grade metal barrel in the Jackson,MS area. I'm planning on finally making a UDS (ugly drum smoker) but am having trouble finding a food grade barrel. The Rankin co op usually has them but they are currently out and not sure when more will be in...

If anyone has a lead it'd be appreciated.

When you find out something, let me know. I've been wanting to make one too, but haven't been able to find a barrel.

Will do. If nothing else the Rankin county co op said they should have some more in in a few weeks and all of their barrels are food grade and unlined.

Food grade may be a mistake, those often have a red/tan liner in them. No amount of burning will remove that liner. If you have a sandblaster, it's all good though.

I get my barrels from a fuel/oil distributor. You can get the re-manufactured barrels for $25. All clean, no liner and no worries about exploding.

What about food grade blue poly drums? Bung top, not open top. Any sources in the Jackson area, down to Wilkinson cty?? Named some for transporting water.

reel heavy, but i used an air compressor tank purchased at scrap metal yard for mine. The thickness of the metal holds heat much better than 55 gallon drum.
