I caught the tail end of a discussion on the MDWFP radio show tonight about a duck kill somewhere in the delta. The last part I heard was that some of the ducks had been retrieved and sent for testing. It also sounded as if it was a relatively small kill. Sorry I don't have more details. Does anyone know anything about this. I have heard of "fish" kills before but never ducks. Have any of you guys that have been around a while ever heard of anything like this?

Don't know what you're talking about in the delta, but yeah I've seen it before several times. About 10 years ago there was a big die off in a corn field in Arkansas. My Dad, Ramsey, and I went in with our dogs for the game wardens and picked up ducks for them. We picked up almost 200. Almost all mallards. Something in the corn was killing them. They made the guys drain and disc the field.
About 5 or 6 years ago, geese were dying by the hundreds in our area. They'd leave the roost and it was nothing for there to be 50 dead birds left behind every day. I can't remember if it was Cholera or Botulism that time.

I heard this as well. They said that it was not a large kill and it seemed to be contained to one small area of one field.
They said that some of the dead birds were collected and sent off for testing to see if they could find the cause.

You find any bands in the process?

My dog picked up a banded greenhead in that cornfield. We pick up dead banded snows and blues every year.
