I have heard it both ways which do you prefer

Moist soil early and Ag fields late.

I'd pick moist soil if I had to choose for MS.

Moist soil hands down.......

I had always herd that rice was better than anything, doers moist soil actually have enough food to out attract rice

I've hunted rice, timber, corn, milo, moist soil, bayous, sloughs, lakes, cypress brakes, willow brakes, rivers, creeks, and ponds, and I've killed more ducks over flooded soybeans than all others probably combined. But that's just me.

fresh flooded, or flooded the first week of season and still smacking them last week? Does flooded ag have the staying power of moist soil?

I think each has their time and place dependent on the current conditions. But if I had to choose one over the other, i'd lean to ag field for feeding birds.

so much of the waste grain sprouts in MS. I'd rather hunt moist soil if I had to choose.

Again, this is just me, but one of my fields- if planted in beans- holds birds all season long. I've had rice in it before with much less success. I have another one that's always planted in beans and usually holds birds all season, but last year 50,000,000,000,000 or so snow geese came and cleaned it out. A third hole I have doesn't seem to hold ducks all year, but when it does it's in the multiple thousands. Location, as we know, is always a huge factor. There's some fields they'll land in even if it's bare dirt.

The thing about beans that I've noticed seemingly more so than say, milo is the diversity of birds that use the fields. I may not be killing mallards one week, but I'll be killing widgeons instead, or maybe no widgeons but gads and teal. That's my favorite part about beans....Mr. Bootlip loves them too though.

I'd take a uncut flooded corn field over anything I've hunted in the past, but I'd invest my time and money in moist soil property before ag fields..JMO

Ill take any of them but it seems to me that the moist soil tends to hold more longer in most places because it doesn't get eaten out as quick...now on the other hand moist soil can change every yr for the better or worse..I know some places this yr that have turned for the worse and have nothing like the have in yrs past and I mean nada .. its gona be a tuff yr for those places best thing they have is the history implant and still should have some good hunts ... at least with ag you know what ya have every yr... I am just glad we have some of it all ...

You gotta manage moist soil too. Usually with a disk and a timed drawdown. Best $40/ acre you can spend. Corn is gonna cost you $200 minimum.

wingman ,you say it needs disking is that in spring or prior to flooding for fall

Fall is easiest and it sets you up great for the next spring, but you cover up a lot of good food for winter.

Spring disking usually ends up being early summer disking, but if you flood it afterwards you can get a good crop of grasses the same year. Just be ready to fight the coffee weed fight.

I disk every third year. I try to swap ag with moist soil to keep certain weeds suppressed with a rotation of herbicides.
