Just curious if anyone uses a service for this. To check your credit periodically and to also make sure some jackleg hasn't opened accounts with your information.

Yes, I do. Life Lock does the most advertising;they are highly rated, as are several others. Identity theft will become an even larger problem in the next decade. I am aware of five different people that payed their taxes last year, and were told by the IRS that they had "already received their information, and were sending a refund. " Their SS numbers had been stolen.
If you have children, keep their SS numbers safe. Many identity thieves target SS numbers of youngsters, so that they can use the number for ten years or more, before it is discovered.

I have been using Transunions monitoring service, it lets you see your updated credit after 24 hours and also emails you when ever there is a change to your report. 16.99 only drawback is when your seeing how something is affecting your credit. Say update your credit say at 8AM today, and 3pm the next day, the following day you cant view the update till after 3pm.

I get to see these a lot in my business. As far as the identiity theft part, great idea. I've seen a lot of people get runined beacuse of ID theft. Second part, monitoring, good to an extent. The main thing is it rarely the same as what we see when we pull your credit, score wise. They tend to be inflated. The reason for that is they normally don't take into account every thing such as balance to limit ratios on unsecured debts, etc.

I monitor my score with Equifax. It helped me get my rating up a good bit just by watching. I was also able to go in and dispute some things that I thought were incorrect. There is no theft protection, but i did get notified as soon as someone applied for 2 citi bank gas cards in my name. I was able to contact citi and get those canceled and fraud alert setup with them.

I use
https://www.idprotectme247.com/sec/ which is free if you have a Guaranty Bank account. They provide it for you. It monitors all 3 agencies and you can login and look at it all the time. It emails and texts you everytime someone even inquires about your credit.......like these companies that just want to send you a credit card application/junk mail.
