Which brand of laptop to get

My mom is needing a laptop and I don't know a thing about what's on the market now. Wanted to get DS opinions. She will be using it just for browsing the internet and emailing. She doesn't need anything fancy. She needs something VERY user friendly. She has never really used a computer much so the more simple it is the better. Thanks for your help.

i have a 13" ASUS mini laptop that was very reasonable... that would be perfect for what she wants, especially if it is her first one. nothing super fancy, but has done everything I have asked from it.

If you get a laptop, make sure it DOES NOT have Windows 8 on it. Whoever invented that program should be promptly flogged.

I have a Toshiba. It's a good laptop with a bad operating system on it.

Mac books are some of the most user friendly and maintenance free computers. Price is their drawback.

Absolutely nothing wrong with Windows 8. Once you're used to it it's much better than Win7. Dude wants something inexpensive and easy to use for her. A tablet is your best bet. You will get far less calls asking how to do something on it which is a key factor to consider. My 3 year old can power an iPad on/off, scroll through the screens, open/close apps. Should be a walk in the park for you mom. A refurbished iPad is a good option as it's cheaper.

Gateway with Windows 7

Windows 8 is by far the worst piece of software ever written and designed.

X1000 I have been trying to get used to windows 8 for 18 months and still hate it. It probably is fine on a touch screen application but is horrible for a laptop.

Yes definitely better on a tablet or laptop with touchscreen.
