My wife has been diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. I need some recommendations on a neurosurgeon in the area that is good (that you would trust your family with). Also does anyone know anything about a Dr. Corbett. She has been referred to Dr. Stringer but the wait time is several weeks. The optomologist she has seen has also referred her to Dr. Corbett. From what we can tell he is an opthamologist (some sites say neurologist) but I don't know if he can do the surgery to have the tumor removed. I The tumor is rather large, 2 cm, and is affecting her vision, hormones etc. We are to the point that I am ready to travel if we can't get in to see someone rather quickly.

Ruth Fredrick's at St D. Hard to get in with but best around Jackson area. She is so booked she works 7 days a week.

You need to see a neurosurgeon. Corbitt is a neuro-ophthalmologist and Frederick is a neuro-oncologist. I did a fellowship at UAB, their pituitary neurosurgeon is Kristen Riley. I'm not sure about UMC. I graduated there in 2004 but don't know about any of their current faculty. I doubt many neurosurgeons in private practice would want to operate on it. Your best bet is an academic center.

Wouldn't they want to see Corbitt first so that they could also consult with an endocrinologist? Just thinking out loud here.

We were thinking she needs to see a neurosurgeon. She has seen an opthamologist. It seems these surgeons are backed up big time. Very frustrating.

Those lines will only get longer once obamacare really gets going!!!!! Wait till they see how the reimbursements are really structured. Seeing a specialty doctor requires a long wait now as it is. Neuro, endocrinologist, dermatologist, etc. Good healthcare will be for the rich in the near future. Socialized for the rest.

She does need a neurosurgeon to actually remove the tumor. There's a lot of things that play into it though. A neuro-opthalmologist is going to have more expertise in the area inside the skull than the regular ophthalmologist. The endocrinologist is going to be the one that deals with the aftermath. Your pituitary gland is what plays a major role with hormones and sending signals to the pancreas and such. The Endocrinologist will be the one to monitor/control that part of it. And, they all need to be on the same page. You may already know all of that......I was just passing on the info so you don't feel like you are on a wild goose chase in case you didn't.

Praying for you guys, can't imagine the frustration. Azordegan did my moms brain surgery several years ago.

Suggest John Lancon who practices at ST D. He does a lot of them. Uses a transnasal endoscopic approach (through the nose). The endocrine component would be applicable post op. Personally don't see what role the neuro ophthalmologist would play at this juncture. PM me if you want to expedite the process.

If her vision is being affected and if there is a risk of permanent damage to her vision, I would think that would qualify as an emergency situation and bump you to the top of the list.

I didn't read all the posts but I was a CRNA at umc and I would suggest dr parent... He's done a thousand! Just my .02

Lancon is who I would see. He has treated several family members.
