Here is a Turpin that I just finished up for my Grandson Cooper's Vest. He is 5 and it won't be much longer before he will be pulling the trigger. He went on his first hunt with my son and I this year. The darker crotch walnut was given to me by a callmaker friend Tom Crook in Hatley, Ms. He got it out of a furniture dump up there. The lighter crotch walnut box was from a walnut tree on the banks of Lake Jackson at Chatham, Ms. Compliments of the New Farm. Thanks for the look.

that's a fine looking call, Mr. E(as usual)....if it talks as sweet as it looks, it's going to be turkey calling machine....

Chip, It has a lower raspy hen left that is smoother than the right raspy hen that will definately turn his head. It has all the soft talk with a proud gobble.

I have only worked on my two grandson's call since I had the last stent put in. Hope my energy gets up to work on some calls soon.

Mr. E, those are some beautiful pieces of wood!!! I know exotics are nice but there are not many woods prettier than walnut crotch or walnut burl. You finished those up nice. Do you use truo for your boxes?

Mike, on the hunter models I use a satin deft laquer. On a Top Hat model like this one that most likely will not be hunted, even though it sounds good, I use the gloss deft lacquer. Trick is to get it really smooth with extra fine steel wool.

Let me know what you would like on yours that I am bringing to Nashville. It will be a lookers and a killer.

Let me say I have never been more pleased with a custom call than with yours. It was truly impressive. The sound on each was amazing. The three things that really made them shine were 1) the paper work detailing where the wood was from and how to get the most out of the call 2)the custom wrist band that helps hold the top still 3) the foam insert with the hidden chalk compartment. GENIUS!!! Obviously made by a man who has spent many many moons fooling ole tom. My hats off too you.
