College players joining labor unions

What does everyone think about this. My understanding is that it only affect private institutions like Northwestern. State public institutions are not under the same rules. Found it interesting that the United Steel workers are paying the legal fees. Northwestern will appeal but it's an interesting topic for conversation. If it's upheld does that throw the door open for all out bidding by private institutions? Will Vanderbilt be the new king of the SEC? I imagine it would fracture college sports into two different leagues. One for private institutions and the other for public. These are just some off the cuff thoughts. I haven't been following it and just read about it today.

My opinion: This will have very little effect on college football. There are too many people with too much to lose who are well connected in DC. $ is a powerful motivator.

This will filter down to state institutions very soon. Easy solution though, no more scholarships to athletes. You want to play, work hard and play. If you don't, sit at home.

It ruins college athletics and opens the doors for minor league football
The NFL is a billion dollar industry they will not let it lose it's worth so to keep players
in the right mind, physically fit, and progress as new athletes they (NFL) would have to
create a minor league football.

If you don't believe the above statement watch the college athletic unions take over and see what
happens next

Oh, I'm sorry Mr. Northwestern player, you get paid to play? Pay for play violates NCAA rules. Go find a different league to play in.
