Ask DS. Baby question

Does anyone have any ideas on how to treat a 2 month old with sinus congestion? One that does not include saline drops, nose suckers,
cool mister/humidifiers, or humidifier tents, because these are used constantly and do not work. I've also heard using breast milk like the saline
drops, but my wife isn't breast feeding so that option is out. I need some sleep fellas, and my wife needs it more than me. More important than
that, I need my baby girl to be breathing properly. It scares the hell out of me when she's gasping for air.

Somebody has to know some kinda trick that ACTUALLY Works.

Been there done that.. All those things above helped for us, but about the only proven tactic that works is time and sleep deprived parents..

We tried some homeopathic(sp?) stuff. My wife showed it to our pediatrician and she said to throw it away as she didn't recognize the ingredients and assumed it was probably a placebo. She did recommend warm apple juice as something to do to kind of break up the congestion. We also put some Vicks type stuff on the chest as needed. Your pretty much out of luck. Sleep at work.

Vick's is another of the options that have already been tried. But never on the bottom of her feet. Interesting concept.

Been there, recently. I'd put Vick's on the roof if I thought it would help. Time is all that worked. Does the child use a pacifier to sleep? I'm assuming yes, so here's something to try:

1) Right before you put her down, give her a warm bath. Take plenty of time rinsing her face around the nose area with a warm washcloth.

2) Take her out, dry her off, and immediately suck out her nose with the suction bulb. The warm bathwater should loosen up all the drainage and let it come out. Put her to bed while she has some temporary relief breathing through her nose.

3) Go back in 20 minutes later, hopefully she's asleep, and steal the pacifier. Maybe she can then breathe through her mouth. My little one spits her pacifier out after she's asleep so I just went in and took it out of the bed.

Hope you can get some sleep.

One thing that helped us was to elevate the head of the crib little.

One thing we would do when our son had that same problem was just let them sleep in the car carrier. Thier head is elevated in a carrier so they breathe better than just laying flat in the crib. Sometimes we would have to take a little drive, usually I just rocked him or actually picked it up and swing it gently to get them to sleep. If your just rocking them we would make sure the seat belts were tucked away so he was not sleeping on them. If that didnt work, I would rock them in the recliner and hold them so thier head were elavated better. Usually it meant less sleep for me, but more sleep for us than if left them in the crib.

I wouldnt suggest doing the recliner move is your sleepy, untill they are about a year so. You can fall asleep yourself in the recliner and possibly drop them when they are small.

We bought a Rock and Play on the recommendation from a neighbor. It seemed to help. It keeps the head elevated and has a strap to keep them in.

Thanks guys. I have tried all of the above except for taking the bath right before bed time. All of my kids have sinus problems so I guess I'm stuck with it
till she is old enough for antihistimine. No sleep for the weary until this passes, and this too shall pass. Just wondered if there was some solution
out there that I had not heard of. Sucks to see your little ones struggle for breath. I can handle no sleep but that scary few seconds waiting on her
to breath is what bothers me most.

Back when our daughter was younger and had RSV, I learned about taking a bed sheet and draping it over the baby crib and a steamer with Vics in it on a chair from this very forum. The bed sheet would make a tent and keep all the steam by her instead of trying to steam up the whole room/house. THIS WORKED WONDERS I tell you. Now days people say to use the cool mist, but I'm still a big fan of warm mist. I also clean my vaporizer pretty decent (literally take it apart and there is nothing to them), so mold isn't a worry for me. I also like warm mist because warm mist to me helps open the sinus cavity and break up the mucus.

If you do put Vics on the feet, put a pair of socks on so the Vic doesn't wipe off on the bedding. You want the Vics on the feet as long as possible to get absorbed by the body.

Pediatricians tell us to use cool mister for sinus an warm for chest congestion. She has acid reflux that is causing the congestion, at least that's what
they are telling us. And I've never been able to keep socks on this child anyway so we will try it on her feet in some pajamas.

If your using a vaporizer, I would drape a bed sheet over the crib. You will get more mist. For sinus, the mist simply moistens the sinus cavity and helps break up any mucus.

Another thing we used faithfully was the nose sucker with the little tube on it. Not a bulb syringe, but one that would go into the sinus cavity. That thing would suck up some mucus and clear her up. Our Pediatrician had given us our, so it may only come from a Doctor's office.

Has the Pediatrician mentioned anything about nebulizer treatments?
