Golf carts...

Wife wants one to cruise kids around the property, down to the lake to fish, over to close friends houses, etc. I was always thinking I needed an electric cart but now considering gas. Those that have both, what are the pros & cons? It will be light duty use with maybe an occasional haul to the camp to cruise around. Any suggestions or things to stay away from. Want a newer one, no camo. Been talking to a guy in Pass Christian about his.

I prefer Club Car gas carts. My second option would be a yamaha. Batteries can be a problem if you ride for a while and are away from the charger. You also have to buy new ones every few years. EZ GO seem to be of a little lesser quality.....long term seem to rattle and break down easier. I've had multiple brands and both gas and batteries. I won't ever go back to batteries. Is the guy in Pass Christian the one that puts a lift and all on them?

no way I would got with gas.

I would defiantly go with electric.

if you want to go over 6-8 miles just take your ATV or side by side.

its nice to creep down the street with no engine noise - its even nicer to ride to your early season bow stand in silence.

check the battery connections every couple times you ride it to make sure they are tight and keep water in them and they will last 5 years.

Was thinking I was dead set on gas...found one that I really liked that was electric and no regrets. Runs all weekend on a charge at the lake (and I have kids). I like the fact its quiet.

I used an Electric at camp this year and road 3-4 miles through various types of terrain and never got stranded. I really like the stealthiness of the electric.

My parents have a new Yamaha gas cart. 2013 model I think. Its nice, but it is a little loud. Other than that, they went with gas for the simple fact of gas and go. They are getting older and didnt want to fool with batteries/chargers etc.. I do know it will run a LONG time on a tank of fuel.

I had one, put new batteries in, it had the larger tires and flip bed, winshield. We really liked it alot. But if you are going to go further than from the club house to the 18th green think long on the gas.

They were made to go a short distance and stop, go and stop, this gives the heat made from the electricity time to dissipate. You dont have to do this this but you will burn up components and wires if you do not and ride longer distances. The increased load from the fixed up carts with larger tires and such compounds the issue. You can upgrade all components and wires and if you go electric I would recomend you do just that.

They are real quiet if you are on dirt or woods roads or even pavement. The problem is, you cannot be quiet driving on gravel. The tires will always make more noise on gravel than anything. The gas engine doesnt make near as much noise as gravel popping under the tires and you can further quiet the engine with muffflers and insulation.

I have had folks slip within 60 yards of me on a gas cart on a woods road before I ever heard anything.

Thanks for the replies. We shouldn't be going more than 5-7 miles at a time & will have the charger readily available when we come back. Yes, the guy in Pass Christian is the one who mods them.
