I have recently put in an order for my supressor but I am having the worst time trying to decide on a supresser ready 308 rifle.. I have ruled out ARs. I have a 223 and will evenetually get a 300 Blackout Upper.. Figure if I go supressed I want quiet like a bolt or single shot .. And it has to be short so that I can use it for a brush gun for deer also..

Other criteria include getting something "different". In other words something I don't already have..

It's a toss up between the Remington 700 SPS Tactical with a 16.5 barrel, a Savage Hog Hunter or Precision Carbine, Mossberg MVP, or decking out the Encore with a 308 barrel.

I already have a Rem 700 in 30-06 from the mid 80s that is a tack driver so I could have it threadded and use it. .

I had the Ruger Scout Rifle in 308 and sold it cause I already have 2 Ruger M77s.

I really like the MVP Patrol rifle in 308, but I have a Mossbger 464 Lever action tacitcal 30/30 that has a threaded barrel, so another 30 caliber Mossberg is a downer. I had the MVP in 223 and it was a cool little rifle....I like the fact that it accepts AR mags too.. You know for Hog Zombies and stuff..

I don't have a Savage, but Savage doesn't make a 16 or 18" threaded barreled .308

To get a threaded Encore barrel from MatchGradeMachine will cost about as much as some of the other rifles listed above..

I am not looking for long range accuarcy. I am looking for a short range hog gun/brush gun for deer.

Thoughts????

I'm currently in the same boat. Probably have a month wait left and haven't decided what rifle I'm going with. Shot a buddies remington 700 sps tactical with subs (AAC SDN6) and it gave me a chubby. I couldn't believe the sound (or lack thereof), but what really surprised me was the recoil. It was nonexistent. Of course the gun with suppressor is so heavy I'd have to hire a midget to carry it around. I assume you won't be deer hunting with subsonic ammo?

So funny. I'm getting ready to sell my AR for the exact same reason. I'm going to get a Savage Model 10fp 308. Already comes with a threaded 22" heavy barrel. I have another model 10fp in 223 and love it. Fantastic rifles. You can not beat them in that price range. It's a longer barrel than you may be wanting, but I'll use it for long range hunting as well, and I want that flexibility. The supressor will come later.

I saw you ruled out AR. But have you seen the new DPMS G2 line? They've really scaled back on the weight. Assuming weight is the issue? My buddy just got one and it feels like a regular AR15.

Otherwise to answer your question, I'd get the match grade machine barrel. You could put a fold-up stock on it and have something that will fit a back pack.

There is a 300BLK Handi Rifle on the market I believe. Short, cheap, and a lot quieter than 300 BLK AR.

I am, but I still have to have a 308 in the safe, just doesn't feel right with out one..

The savage hog hunter is a great shooting compact gun but you can't go wrong with the Remington either.

I have a couple of .308 rifles that are suppressed. They are each different in their own way. From your description, I would say a Remington 700 SPS tactical is the option that will have you most satisfied for what you want to accomplish.

If you want to have fun on the range go with the LWRC REPR.

I have finally made up my mind (I think)

I am going to go with the MVP Patrol model. I like the 16 inch barrel and it accepts AR Mags.. Scope and all I can get it for less than $600.00 bucks.. Not sure on the scope, but will most likely go with a night vision scope in the future and I got a 10/22 that I can put this scope on if nothing else. The MVP Patrol should do all I need it to do for hog work and brush gun..

The 700 is a good bit more and If I got the 700 I would want to upgrade the stock, trigger, go to a DBM, add a rail and scope and by time I did that I would have close to $1200 in it. I am going to save the extra dollars that I would have spent on the 700 and have my Rem 700 in 30-06 and TC Contender in 6.8 SPC threaded. Then start saving up for the 300 Blackout Upper..
