When is the best time to burn a yard/hayfield. We built our house in the middle of an existing hayfield it is mostly bahalia with small patches of Bermuda here and there.

Probably now. But warn your local fire department. We've been on two calls this weekend that were control burns that no one told anyone about.

We were under a burn ban last I heard. I wish that the local news would make that more of an issue. Maybe leave the fishing forecast off and let people know that there is a high potential of starting a wildfire that they can/will be held liable for.

Its been a few red flag days lately. But i did not think burn bans were in effect. Call the forestry Commission in you're county. local news is not the place to get fire weather.

This is worth the $$ if you plan to do RX burns. This one is around $100, last time I looked. Forestry suppliers has them. I prefer the steel ones but they cost double what this one does below.
Mix 1GAL of gas with Two GAL of diesel. You see the black line on the lable. You can fill it up with gas to the top of that line and the rest diesel. to much diesel and the wick won't stay lit. To much Gas and it burns like a vapor and won't reach the ground.
They are very foregiving on the mix so long as you're close it will burn.
It gives you way more control. And you're not stuck with a lighter/matches.
One full DRIP torch would have burned off that field in 10min when using a ATV. Just saying.

Drip torch is the way to go and one fill up will last you many burns.

If you really want to add an element of surprise to the thing, take an old feed bag and tie it in the middle with about 10 feet of hay string. Then tie the other end to yer dogs collar. Light that bag up and let the fun begin.

I use a propane tank and a wand torch that hooks up to it, bought it in Gemplers for like $60, have had it for about 3 years and we use it anytime we light piles or burn off natives in the spring. Well worth the $$$$$, I'll see if I can find the link
