Interesting what some folks come up with. I could see where this could come in handy if you didnt have a skinning rack, but you still have to gut them.

I don't golf, so i have just used a rock in the past. Interesting that they chose to do it with the deer on the ground instead of hanging.

We were skinning deer with a golf ball and tractor back in the 80's. We ran dogs and cleaned and gutted every deer killed. We did our own processing and used just about every part of the deer. It makes quick work of snatching the hide off if you have a good stable skinning rack.

You can get the hind quarters, shoulders, backstraps, and tenderloins out without gutting, but you'll still have to gut it if you want the rib meat.

How do you get the tenderloins out?

A lot easier done than said. After I remove the shoulders and backstraps, I cut lose the stomach muscle between the last rib and the hind quarters. Gives me enough room to run my fingers down the spine to the tenderloins and move the guts around to cut them out. Like I said, it's a lot easier to show someone than tell them.

I've seen the tenderloins removed without gutting. With the deer hanging upside down enough of the gut supportive tissue is cut so that the bowels sag allowing access to the tenderloin.

Yup this is what I do. They can actually be pulled out with your hands to avoid a knife tip accidentally catching the stomach. Just work your fingers behind them, run the up and down and it falls right out.

If you look at the video I posted back during hunting season, you can see me do the cuts he is talking about.
