Looking at improving my yard this summer since I finally have gotten some of the trees out of the way which made it impossible for grass to grow.

I have access to a hollow tide turf aerator, what if I took the aerator and went over the yard, say five or six times, basically a tillage operation then lay sod on top of that after killing grass with roundup or gramoxone. I can water the whole yard so moisture shouldn't be an issue, especially if I do it late spring early summer. I don't want to disk or put a conditioner on the yard because of the mud and more importantly I know there are lots of roots a couple of inches below the ground that will tear up equipment, would rather not get into fixing stuff if possible. Turf guys, could this work?

Why can't you sod the areas that you had problems with before? Your gramoxone option seems a bit harsh

It's mixed grass there and have some blade work to do to keep water from puddling. Was wanting to get Bermuda established. First thing I had to do was remove some trees that were dying and way too close to my house, former owner smothered them with the flower beds but couldn't understand why the trees were dying.

No need in the aerator if you are going with burmuda grass and have a way to water it in. You also don't have to to wait until late spring or summer to do it, you can do it now if you are ready. As far as the existing grass and weeds just kill everything and wait a week or so then lay the new sod on top if you are not going to put a piece of equipment on it.
