ASK DS: Places to stay near Washington DC

Postby arduckslayer » Thu Jan 09, 2014 11:40 am

Probably gonna be making a trip in early March to DC with the wife and her family (parents and younger brother and sister). Any recommendations on a place to stay? Looking for somewhere with reasonable rates and accommodations, preferably with a continental breakfast. We'd consider a 2 room suite or condo if the rates are right. Let me know what you got!

I can't think of the name off the top of my head we stay when we go but it is along the METRO line that goes to the zoo. That brings me to my main point. If you can get a hotel where a METRO station is close by you will be in a much better situation than trying to drive from say Virginia or Maryland. If you fly the METRO has a stop at Reagan National so you can catch the subway and be dropped at or close to your hotel. If you decide to use the Metro you need to make sure none of your party has any fear of going down an escalator into a deep hole to catch the train. First we went it took me an hour to convince my wife to get on the escalator. Told if she didn't get on we were screwed because there was no other way around except by cab and I wasn't doing that. She finally did it and actually started liking it, especially in Summer. It's very cool in the Summer that deep underground.

give barack a call and ask if he and the missus have some room. you pay for it, the least they could do is to give you a few free nights for your tax dollars!

My last trip to DC we stayed in Baltimore and rode the Metro down. Of my 3 trips I have been to DC this was by far the best. Driving in DC is beyond a nightmare and I grew up in Dallas traffic. Hotels were cheaper there too

My last few trips to DC I have stayed in old town Alexandria. I believe it's two metro stops south of Reagan national. There are multiple hotels across the street from the metro and many resteraunts and bars available on King st as you head east. This is an easy 10-15 min metro ride into the national mall area. I've picked up rooms for around $100 at the Hilton and Westin at this location.
