Garage door spring
Garage door spring
Has anybody ever had to replace one. I have heard this is something better left to the pros. Had one break the other day and need to fix it pretty soon. If you have done it yourself how hard was it or if you know somebody around Southaven let me know. Thanks
Re: Garage door spring
Have a pro do it as you need a special tool. Plus, you could get seriously killed...seriously. You have to twist the spring after installing (that's were the tool comes in) and if you do not know what you're doing, that think can cause some serious damage.
Re: Garage door spring
I had a professional do it. Read a couple horror stories on the net and made up my mind.

I had the company that put my door up when we built the house 17 years ago put a spring on mine a couple years ago. Get someone that knows what they are doing to do it. Best I recall it cost around $200, but that was for part, labor and everything.

+1,000,000. If you don't know exactly what you are doing with that thing, it will flat do you some serious bodily harm. And double so, if you happen to have two springs on your door.@work wrote:Have a pro do it as you need a special tool. Plus, you could get seriously killed...seriously. Re: Garage door spring
just had mine replaced about 3 weeks ago. I looked at a few Youtube videos on "how to" thinking that I could do it. After the third one I decided that it would be best to pay the $180 and let someone else do it. It literally took the guy 10 minutes and he was done.

Re: Garage door spring
I had mine replaced a year or two ago. One broke and the repairman said it was best to replace both at the same time as the other would surely break within 6 months.

Re: Garage door spring
I had a garage door and opener given to me so my dad and I put it up ourselves. We got it done with no injuries. It can be done. To me it was just aggravating. You have to get the spring set just right to pull the door up but not to much. If I have to do it again though I will have it done. Between that and getting the opener adjusted about made me want to just tear it all down.
