SBE II v Maxus

(Note: I know this is a Ford v Chevy, pick the one that fits you best, run into the ground topic, but humor me  )

For those of you that have run both guns in hunting situations (cold, muddy, wet, etc.), which gun do you prefer and why? Which is more dependable?

I have a friend that is not a board member that loves the way both guns feel, but before pulling the trigger, no pun, wants an opinion about the guns from other duck hunters that have experience with both.

Thanks!

SBE 2. I've had both. Maxus failed me on an out of state hunt. Dealer I got it from did me right and put me into a SBE 2, and I've been nothing but pleased. Not the only time he'd seen problems with the Maxus either.

SBE 2, I found a dealer that had an "American" edition left in stock, which is the same gun just without the comfort tech stock for a little over 1000.

No trouble out of my SBE2, cycles all loads well

Heres what Ive noticed and ive shot both and hunted with folks who hunted the maxus.... The Maxus will be a whole lot less on recoil, the gas guns kick less. The downfall about the gas guns is cleaning them. They have to be cleaned to function. If the gas ports are dirty/fowled up bad, the gun will NOT perform. Ive seen this first hand... One guy that hunted with me a ton last year, had to clean his gun often...

On the other hand, if the more recoil doesn't bother you, no doubt go with the Benelli... The inertia guns run, run, and run some more... I have noticed, in dealing with selling guns, most the complaints we get with the benellis, are from folks who have no idea how to clean one. Benellis require very very little oil. I clean mine twice a year. At the half way point in the AR season, and the end of the season.

No doubt, go Benelli. I sell 10 Benellis to every 1 Maxus/Silver

SBE 2 hands down, no doubt. Recoil is a little more, then again who notices that when you pulling down on greentops? I can almost guarantee you the gas system will let you down at some point unless you clean it pretty much after every hunt. Trust me I've been through those days and I ain't going back, much much easier to wipe the dust off once, sometimes twice a season and be done with it... It's simple.... They shoot when nothing else will. Just my 2 cents.

I have had the maxus for 3 years now and hunt more than average. First year piston broke, second year ejection problems, this summer ejection problems. sent back to the factory 3 times and they fixed everytime. I will never own another gas operated gun to duck hunt with. Majority of my hunting buds use benneli and seldem if ever have problems. you can imagin the hell I catch for having this gun. currently looking into the new a5 or eating my words and buying a sbe11. hope this helps
