Gun value? by serial number?? Pics added

Postby Jeff » Mon Sep 23, 2013 2:47 pm

Have a question for the gun gurus on here. I had a VERY close hunting partner that passed away last year. He left me two guns. One of them is an older Winchester model 21 skeet gun. I told the family member in charge of the estate I would give them something for the gun as I wanted them to have something for it rather than take it as a gift. I know nothing about model 21's and as I look at them online it looks like many are worth a good bit. Knowing nothing about the gun as far as age, how would I figure out it's worth? I have the serial number does that help?? I am lost here and want to make it right with the family in charge of the estate. Thanks in advance.

Maybe i just dont get it but......

A good hunting buddy gave you the guns and now your going to PAY his left family for them? If thats what he wanted he would have said that " Jeff has firsts choice"!

Take the guns your bud passed on to you and enjoy them like he knew you would. End of story

Sorry for the unsoliceted advice.

I can be of no assistance in the value.

TOO much 101 i guess. Edited with the correct cajun. Yall all look alile anyway.

Lodi many have told me it's something I don't need to do. However it's something that I want to do. I truly appreciated my friend and I want to make sure his family is taken care of.

Some pictures of the gun....

By the way just to be clear I have NO absolutely NO intention of selling this gun. I am not looking for a formal appraisal to sell the gun rather to merely find our more info about the gun. I know absolutely nothing about the gun or side by sides in general. I am an idiot when it comes to this stuff any help would be greatly appreciated.

I plan on calling the Cody museum tomorrow to get more info on the gun and order formal paper work from the company. Serial number matches on receiver, forearm and barrels.

You got a good gun, they are of considerable value. Contact Steve Barnett in West Point...Think it is Barnett's fine guns, he can give you and appraisal.
I will try and dig up contact #.

I believe your intentions are honorable, and suspect that is one reason you ended up with the gun. I dont know anything about the family of your friend, but offering to pay for the gift may kick an ant bed your friend was trying to avoid. Perhaps, many years from now, you'll have an opportunity to return the gun, as a gift, to a member of the family in a future generation. Regardless, mighty fine looking gun, remember to wipe it down after shooting skeet!

If it was something that he wanted you to have then I would say take it free and clear. I know we have run into some of those ant beds on my dads side of the family before...

Winchester Model 21s are very, very desirable and collectible...and the right ones are worth quite a bit. Your deceased hunting buddy obviously placed great value on your relationship. Enjoy his legacy!

Thanks for the advice Kris! I was thinking that would be a bad idea! However finished reloading him into four boxes of shells last week. Going to spread him out on Delta opening weekend with some of his other guns all doubles but not that exotic/rare.
