NOVA: Good Backup Gun?

Looking for a good pump gun if the auto ever fails. A friend just dropped by and brought me a Benelli Nova and told me to try it Saturday morning. He said if I liked it he would sell it for $350. Seems kind of steep to me. It's two years old, covered in realtree camo, and has some minor scrathes. Cosmetics doesn't matter but I don't want to overpay for an abused gun. The action is smooth and feels fine. Couldn't I get a new one for that price?

You can get one brand new for less than $350, go with a $249 3" magnum Rem 870 pump, can't beat them.

Yeah that price is a little steep. I can't believe that I am about to say this -- but I agree w/ GH22, a Remington 870 is a good, reliable gun. We had a Nova as a backup gun but never used it (due to the reliablity of the Beretta AL390 and Remington 870); We shot some skeet w/ it and didn't like the way it pumped - it wasn't very smooth. So, my Dad sold it and ended up buying some new 4 wheeler tires w/ the money!

'Preciate the info. Gonna "TRY" and shoot it Saturday and see. Wouldn't give him $350 though. Always like the chance to try out a different gun. By the looks of the forecast we'll probably be seeing more hummingbirds than ducks. a friend of mine shoots a nova and last year, he let it slip over in the blind. the firing pin froze in the bolt. he spent an hour trying to get it to shoot. the only time my 879 hasn't done what it was supposed to do was because of a hungover aiming system. 'Not sayin' that Franchis aren't good guns, ........but if you are the 'Franchi'-Man, it seems almost contradictory that you would consider another brand? (Huh??) You may have to change your alias (in this case) to something like 'Whateverworks-MAN' ...or...'Franchiman,onlyWHENitworks' .....or Franchi,WHENitworks-MAN

Good Luck!!

Aren't ya'll gonna miss me when I head back to Louisiana, tomorrow?

Anatidae, maybe we got off on the wrong foot. Just trying to get some conversation going. JEEEES. The forum was about as cold as a witch's tit in a brass bra. I just love getting on here and getting criticized by you on my every word. I don't know you very well but maybe that's just how you are. Everybody else seems ok.

Now on with the name calling. MR KNOW IT ALL

This is probably the most overused but far as I can tell its the best fitting. And what's the deal with all those facial expressions? Think you put enough diff'rent ones on there? Got me to wondering if you could be diagnosed with MPD.(Multiple Persionality Disorder)

870 Express-less than $200-why anything more?
A hunting gun,who cares if it gets a scratch?
Bust ice when you need it to.
Works as a paddle,if it has to.
ETC. ETC. ETC.

CAN'T BEAT IT FOR HUNTING GUN....

The Nova may be covered in realtree and I know it is not "real" camo. If it were only Mossy Oak.
In my mind you can't go wrong with a NOVA. I have had one for three years and you can't hurt it. 350$ is steep you can get a new one for about that price.

For the record FranchiMan is an acceptable handle for a Nova owner, since Franchi is imported by Benelli - both of which are owned by Beretta. So I suppose all those would be related. You're OK with me FranchiMan. I really like that new o/u they got with the gold trim, it's sweet.
