In water, with salt....
Really, its easy. Get a big booty pot, shake some salt in and bring to a boil. Add peanuts. Wait for them to boil over. Then settle heat down to med-high. wait two hours, try a few, add some more salt, cook 2 more hours. Try a few, add a dash more salt. let them cool down to suck up the salt. eat some more, grab a beer, eat some more, grab a beer....
Have friends that have been doing it in a crock pot lately. Seemed pretty easy.

Walmart, Kroger just about any store has raw peanuts this time of year. I have some friends that have a bunch in the garden, but honestly it's worth 2 bucks a pound to not have to dig them.

A few things about boiling peanuts in your house. They will foam up pretty good after the water has come to a boil in the first 20 min. Usually due to the dirt but just take a big spoon and scoop it off, otherwise if it boils over it will stink up your kitchen when it hits the stove top. I already put up two bushels this year and might have to do a third ( my oldest 8 year old is finally figuring out other things in life taste better than pizza and junkfood), but like Dawgma said, it usually takes about 3-4 hours of boiling depending on size. Usually I boil for about two hours before putting the salt to them, then cook for about two more hours and cut them off. Just let them sit till they cool down. If they are two salty, dont throw them out. Those are perfect for freezing; when you get ready to eat them in a few months, just boil them again. The extra salt will be reduced a good bit by reboiling them, plus it only few minutes of boiling to have them ready.

I think my pot holds about 10 pounds or so but I usually put in a bout 2-2 1/2 cups of salt. You dont have to use alot of salt, just depends on how long you let them set.

If your not in a hurry..... CROCK POT! Just cover em up with water and I like to use that old bay seasoning...... Cook em over night on high and see if they are tender.... If not, cook em some more..... You don't have to watch em or stay with em.....

Have cooked them a few different ways - but the easiest by far is the Crock Pot method. I think the bags we buy are like 2-3 pounds max - along with a cup of salt. Bring them to a boil in the Crock Pot and them put on warm overnight. Best to cool them in the fridge for about an hour - then eat. I think they're actually a little better 2-3 days afterwards.
For you guys, I keep hearing how MS is becoming more prolific in the world of peanut farming but have yet to see/taste any local produce - you guys seeing it in the Delta?
On another note, if you're boiling on the stove and it wants to foam - simply place a wooden spoon over the pot - eliminates the boil over. That tidbit free for being a loyal ducksouth reader.

^^^^^^^ this^^^^^^^ and may have to add some water once or twice along the way.. The only way to ruin them would be to leave them on the stove eye and fall asleep! With the stove on!
Stinks bad.
