3. Alcatraz
4. John Muir woods - look out for tree huggers
5. Wine country (Sacramento River Valley - duck haven)
6. Haight Ashbury district

Ghiradelli Chocolate Factory
Winchester Mansion
Hearst Castle
I don't remember if those are all in the San Fran vicinity; only time I ever went was when I was 12.

Ditto on Rule #1. My wife and I just moved to Sacramento from Jackson. I would recommend spending a couple of days in the city then getting the hell out. While you are there, go to North Beach (Italian section, good restaurants) and go to the Buena Vista bar near Ghiradelli Square. Check out Point Reyes (beuatiful coast hike) and Muir Woods (big redwoods). They are all very close to the city. I would drive down to Monterey on Hwy 1 or go north to Mendocino County. It is quiet and the Coast Range runs through there. Also, plenty of very good wineries there and not quite as snotty. Yosemite NP is beautiful too and not too far from the Bay-area, but traffic could be bad if you go on a weekend (just a heads up). A week in northern California will give you the highlights. Plenty of rice and ducks here in the Sac Valley too. Plan to be surprised. It is starting to get pretty hot though, but plan on taking some warm clothes to San Francisco.

1. Hustler Club
(I met Lary Flint the night it opened!!! Awesome!)
2. Fishermans Wharf
(there is pretty much anything you want for seafood there, I suggest the steamed lobster half.)
3. Comedy Club at the fishermans wharf
(I can't remember the name of it. I saw Joe Rogan from Fear Factor! Awesome!)
4. Japan Town
(If you like sushi, you can find some of the best in the country there.)

bulldog what you said is basically what we have planned. We are gonna spend a couple of days in S.F. a couple in Yosemite and a couple around Santa Cruz and Monterey.
