No I'm not quiting my job,just want yall's thought's as I thought this was kinda sorry.Guy I know had a new job and did what he thought was the rite thing and gave his 2wk notice at his present work they just paid him what he was owed for the day's he'd worked that wk and let him go.I think that suck's as he was trying to do the rite thing and not leave them hanging when it seem's he should have kept his mouth shut and worked 2 more wks and just not showed up the next Monday.Our company has alway's offered to let a person stay for the 2wks or leave now and get 2wks pay.

Could be quite a few variables that figure into this one, first one that comes to mind would be him going to work for the competition. However, there are quite a few ways this shakes out where the employer is just butt hurt and sends the employee packing. If that's the case, it would be obvious that its not a place ya want to work anyway and good thing said employee moved on
I am interested in purchasing duck calls that were made by Mike McLemore. I am a family member and they have a sentimental value.

I worked for an arrogant booty hat in Jackson that owned an equipment company for damn near slave wage out of college. I got a job offer over double my pay in the field my degree was in. I went in his office to let him know he tried to counter but it was too late the guy had plenty of time before hand. He had me turn my stuff right then and leave. I decided at that point I would never be like that if the shoe was on the other foot an I never have as long as it wasn't to a competitor. I had bills to pay and thankful no family then. Two weeks no pay then usually two weeks before your first pay check at another job. I can see if someone is just loafing and their demeanor changes but most keep going like business as usual. I think it reflects poorly on the person.

We are not allowed to give notices. Our company likes for you to give one but we are required to let you go and terminate you right then. Basically company trying to screw you for doing the right thing in my eyes. That way they can say they terminated you. Also for liability issues, incase you manically get hurt or something.
I've been in both spots. Having to let someone go when they turned in a notice. Always let them know to use me as a reference for anything to help them out. Then kept one to help him out till he started his new job and he got hurt. Then it was on company dime

Business is relationships.
I think - the separation procedure and period depends on the 'value' of the employee's service (past and present) to the company......and the leadership experience of the employer.
Obviously, one (or both) of those may be lacking in smoe cases. A lot has to do with the maturity of both.
If you're lucky enough to land a job with good folks, that's a big plus.

Yall are to sensitive,
i'm a Trader. We trade anything that you can make money on, I just happen to specialize in Meat - protein commodities instead of stocks
in this business, if you leave, you are gone that day, just the way it is. you can't afford for somebody to take important client information with them when they go, just can't risk it.

There is always two sides for an employee leaving. If the position is critical and someone needs to be trained for a replacement, then 2 weeks notice can be helpful to an employer to trainer the new comer. If not, then adios.

Seems a lot of places are like this. I worked for a company in Memphis and turned in my two weeks. Boss told me to do my exit interview and go ahead and leave that day. I had a pile of work that i was going to complete before i left. Boss said to me "Anyone that turns their 2 weeks in doesnt want to be here. So there is no need for you to stay and act like you are going to get something done." Least it was duck season and i got to hunt. Negative was i didn't have water or ducks.

There are exceptions due to competition issues or just someone being PO'd because the person is quiting.
Rule of thumb I would use is that if you know you are going to turn in your notice, make sure you have all your stuff ready to take with
you that day, and make sure you have enough saved up to miss a paycheck or two. Also possible to let the company you accepted the
new job with know you are planning on turning in a notice, but request that you come to work early for them if the company rejects your
notice. Just a good rule of thumb.

I've been on both sides of this issue, in various industries. Some businesses will require you to leave immediately, period. This may or may not be because of managements preference - and I have worked for both types of managers - those who will provide you with 2 weeks pay, and those who tell you to immediately leave the premisis under threat of security involvement. (For instance, most banking and finance jobs involve employees knowing personal financial data of customers. These businesses will want you to leave ASAP.) Some businesses will allow you to stay and work for the 2 weeks.
But remember, Mississippi is a right to work state. The business does not owe the leaving employee anything, just like the leaving employee doesn't owe the business they are leaving anything. The "2 weeks notice" is merely from the goodness of one's heart. In other words, the company can say "get out now", or the employee can say, "I quit", and they can both part company.

I'd get him to file unemployment for the two weeks until his new job starts. If he gave two week notice in writing.....it doesn't start until the date he said he would be finished. Therefore, he's actually terminated if they tell him to leave today. I had that happen to me one time as a business owner. The person said they were going back to school and told me to start looking for a replacement about a month out from school starting. Well, I find a replacement and the one going back to school doesn't come back for a few days. Well, they file unemployment and I had to pay it until school started back b/c they didn't work until that time.......so in effect, it was just like I terminated them. It even went before the appeals judge over the phone.
Also, that's why businesses that pay every two weeks require you to work the two weeks before you are paid.

This guy worked in a place where he there were no clients or files to take with him,just got a job at a factory for better pay.
