I've fished the area the last four days. In four days we caught 52 trout. 46 of them being in one day.
I would suggest targeting snapper and redfish, NO ONE is catching trout consistently in the Empire-Venice area right now. In over 30 years of fishing down there I have NEVER seen a year like this one on trout. Snapper are thicker than I have ever seen though and redfish bite has really turned on. In 4 days of fishing we caught over 50 reds a day and limited out on snapper each day.

Trout are piled up to the west right now Jeff. Not sure if its salinity levels or what but grand isle and cocodrie are flat out stacked. Not hearing much about Venice area.

Thanks for info!! Dang river screwing the trout up!! Been high all spring. We are going through Ryan Lambert at Cajun Adventures. He said the same about trout and that reds seem to be plentiful. At least we should have some good fights on our hands with the reds! Maybe the wind won't be too bad and we can get out to some specs or snapper.

Ryan is a good guy and probably has one of the nicest lodges down there. I know my buddy at Blaize Charters has been catching reds pretty good recently.

Everyone is catching reds, the bite has really turned on for them in the last month. Trout are just awful, I have heard they are killing them in GI and Cocodrie, but didn't feel like making the run from Venice to GI this weekend. Had so much fun catching snapper and reds it was fine, would have liked a few more trout though.

Yea he is a nice guy. We use him several times a year with different customers. I have never been down there and come home without a good mess of fish for everyone.
