As far as state highways, launching is "technically" a no-no.

Never had a problem or heard of anyone having a problem doing so in south MS. I would like to know if there is a law against it.
It seems to me as long as you stay within the right of way you would not be on private land.

It
is illegal off of a state highway, although I know it is rarely enforced most anywhere. Fishing on state ROW is illegal as well.

the plan was really to put in off a county road next to a bridge on a small creek, not necissarily the road itself. i always heard that 25 feet next to the bridge was state property. plus it would really be a pirogue versus dropping with a trailer.

If it is a public road and you are in the ROW and the waterbody is a public waterbody, I say go fo it and to hell with the "rules". Load you boat and take off

Do this all the time with my canoe and kayaks. So far, so good. If there were a trailer involved it may attract unwanted attention though.
