Question of Longevity...Ole Miss & State Football

Postby Deltamud77 » Thu Mar 28, 2013 7:56 am

Who will be at their respective school the longest...Hugh Freeze or Dan Mullen? Mullen will enter his 5th season this fall in Vegas. Even if the team has a losing season, given his level of success prior to the 2013 season, one can assume he will get another go and likely coach at least 6 seasons at State.

Hugh Freeze has had one season under his belt. Freeze and Ole Miss seem to have all the momentum right now. If you look at any recruiting sites, Ole Miss is in the running for just about every player that LSU and Bama are in the running for, meaning that one can safely assume another very solid recruiting class for Ole Miss. One can also safely assume that Ole Miss will win more games in 2013 than they did in 2012...perhaps a lot more. Freeze has stated that Ole Miss is his dream job.

So, if Mullen is trending down (and I think that is a safe assumption at the moment) but will likely coach at least 6 seasons in Starkville, and Freeze is trending up and proving to be one of the best recruiters in the nation, will Freeze last for 5 more seasons in Ole Miss?

It seems the more accurate question at this juncture may be if Freeze continues on this progression, will he leave Ole Miss before he has coached for 5 or 6 seasons for a better job?

My Answer: I think he is really likely to stay, unless a job like Bama or Georgia opens up and he is offered the job. I don't think he can turn either of those schools down.

if mullen shows the same lack of enthusiasm as he did at the close of this past season, i see a calling for his head this season. he didn't look as though he wanted to be anywhere near the sidelines during the last few games of the season...and it was noticed my many.

until proven otherwise, I will stick by my thoughts that history tends to repeat itself. the over or under for freeze should be set somewhere around 4. longterm success and upward trends tend to be sporadic at best, it all goes back to money in our conference. Until we can operate at budgets on par with the top 20% of the league then it's going to be dang near impossible to get in and stay in the top 20%.

for exmaple you could kill a 4 greenheads (two banded), a mallard/black cross, and a mallard/gaddy cross and smash a hot blonde on the way back to the ramp and call it a hell of a day
and THAT is a duck hunt.

Neither will have an offer by Bama. Smart will take over if Saban retires which I do not see happening. 5 years ago it was all how Mullen would change things and now it's Ole Miss turn. Enjoy it.

no doubt he has turned our program around from the previous era and created some excitement in 'vegas that was absent for too long!
