I am not sure which direction to go, but it seems we get the statement a lot when getting donations for most fundraisers that we hold, when can we do something that stays local? Are any of you part of something that's purpose is raising money for local needs rather its a park that needs over hauling, families in need (which I feel could lead to a can of worms, as to how they are chosen)? I'm just brain storming. I would like to see a group that's focus is for the betterment of the community. I am tired of dealing with large organizations that determines how we raise money and then it's shipped out or from what I've read earlier that portions of what we donate go to the cause while some large salaries are paid out with in the organization. I haven't gotten very far thought you guys may have some opinions.

Thanks for the messages. I like the ideas an it seems that if we just organize the group we could pick a specific organization per event. We have an event coming up an I am looking into Catch A Dream or something in that nature.

Operation Prop, Inc is a 501(c)3 located in Flowood Ms. We work with people with disabilities and wounded warriors. We are known for hosting "flying" events where we trick folks into coming out of the house for a free airplane ride and when they arrive at the airport not only do they get their flight, they are also introduced to wheelchair basketball, rugby, fencing, art, etc. Recently I was approached by the Ms Paralysis Assoc. to assist in organizing a fishing event. All we needed was an accessible pier, restroom and some shade. We soon realized it would require a 100 mile round trip to a state park as there are no such accomodations in the Jackson area. I learned of the new accessible pier across from the old Rapids on the Reservoir location but the restroom is not accessible and there is no pavillion for shade. Did you know many people with spinal cord injuries lose the ability to sweat making it extremely difficult to stay cool? We contacted Pearl River Valley and rather than waiting on Government to do do everything for us we are bringing them, the community of individuals and businesses together to remedy this situation sooner rather than later. Worst case we will remodel the existing restroom and provide some economical shade and best case is we build a new restroom and pavilion that can serve as a model for other communities. We have already raised right at $10,000 but still need help in the form of talent, labor, materials and of course cash. To be able to give this incredible gift to folks that can really can use it is such a pleasure. More info is on our website
