Ole Miss QBs
Question for you rebels. Of your two QBs in this class which one do you think will be the future of Ole Miss football. I think Buchannan is over rated, he has a big arm but definetly needs some coaching. I think Kincade is a better prospect and will be the man in Oxford he also seems to fit the system better.

Re: Ole Miss QBs
I like both of them. Kincade is probably more polished at this point and the most ready to contribute early in Freeze's system. He is a sharp young man -- smart and focused. But, Buchanon has a lot of upside potential, with great raw skills. Both are full qualifiers. Both will likely redshirt this fall. By the time these two young men get their opportunity to play, I expect that there will be intense competition between them and one or more other QBs already on the roster.
The future of the QB position at Ole Miss looks very good.

I think Kincade will better fit Freeze's system. Buchanan is a pocket passer, and doesn't fit the read option well. Kincade has great touch on the deep ball and has a huge arm. Also sounds like a great kid.
He had the highest IQ score in the Elite Eleven QB camp. This is his cover letter he sent in with his LOI today:

To: Coach Freeze
Coach McGriff Coach Warner, and Coaching Staff
Dear Sir:
Today is National signing day and as the quarterback of this class, I feel like I have to lead by example. Today I commit to lead in practice, on and off the field, in the classroom and in everything I do as a Rebel. I will give my best at all times as a student and as the quarterback by studying the playbook, executing the offense, and doing all I can to get us to Atlanta and securing the National Championship. God has blessed me to be the QB for the best recruiting class in Ole Miss History. I do not take that lightly. Today February 6th is when it starts, by getting up earlier than I have to be the first one to send in my National letter of Intent! I am an Ole Miss Rebel and by the grace of God, I can do all things through him who gives me strength! Mr. Switchblade DPK let us go to work!
Sincerely,
DeVante P. Kincade

That is the kind of stuff you like to hear from a recruit.
Re: Ole Miss QBs
both will redshirt this year. for sure.. i don't think HF has to have a "dual threat" to run his offense. i think DK is closer to being game ready now, but they both have the opportunity to be big time qb's. if saban wants you to play qb then there's something to it. let's just hope the potential turns into on the field production

Re: Ole Miss QBs
I don't know what to expect from Buchanan, but if you want a barometer, he had an offer from Saban. Looks like typical pocket passer, probably in the mold of what Bama has now in McCarron. What's his talent level and ceiling? Who knows...but even if you don't trust his MPSA background or his Ole Miss offer, I would trust Alabama didn't offer him b/c of his star rank or his accomplishments at Jackson Prep...I think he's talented.
HOWEVER, I think Devante Kincaide is likely the biggest sleeper in the class. he was really spoken highly of in the big QB camp circuit without ever garnering the rankings. He's played in the biggest arena of football as a QB short of college for past 3 years. He could be big time if the program continues to progress around him, he might be really big in 3 years, especially given the direction of the offense with Wallace and Brunetti. I thin Kincaide will be better than either of them.

Buchanan is the most overrated QB prospect in MS in many years. He has a strong arm but is not accurate against academy whities and is scared of contact against the small crackers as well. I predict he is an all world fraternity QB on the intramural circuit by his junior year.

Delta, what are you basing that harsh assessment upon? I'm not saying you are wrong, but what you are saying seems to fly in the face of the young man's offer list which included an offer from Bama. Nick Saban has proven that he has a darn good eye for talent. And Hugh Freeze would not have wasted a scholarship on a QB with the characteristics you described.

Re: Ole Miss QBs
All coaches miss on recruits. I think he is a product of going to a lot of camps and showing he has a big arm. It is one thing to do it in 7on7 and another to do it in a live game. No doubt his arm has the potential but I just think the rankings should be the other way around for the rebel QBs.Po Monkey Lounger wrote:Delta, what are you basing that harsh assessment upon? Buchanan is a great kid. He will not be on scholarship at Ole Miss and most likely will not see the field.

Might not play or ever start or whatever, but he's getting a scholarship...and again, if our team is so good that we can take recruits with scholarship offers to other SEC power programs and put them on intramural teams without scholarships, yall better watch out, Rebels bout to dominate

Re: Ole Miss QBs
Buchanan didnt need a scholarship and never had a second thought about where he would enroll in school. I know he was at the top of Rivals and Scouts list and had offers from all over the country, but when it came down to it he has been and will always be a Rebel. I wish him the best of luck and success on and off the field. Hes a good kid that comes from a great family. He will be set up to succeed.

I am not really trying to knock him I just think the other guy is a better prospect. With the right coach Buchannon does have the arm to become a good SEC QB.Po Monkey Lounger wrote:Say what ?

Re: Ole Miss QBs
Florida offered Buchanan too...if Florida and Bama recruit you - you have talent.
