I have a new addition to the family (black lab named Tank) He is 7 weeks old and weighs 10 lbs. I need everyone's opinion on what the best puppy food is out there? I am currently feeding Iams. Let's here everyone's opinion.

I use Iams proactive health.

Taste of the Wild, Dog loves it. Awesome ingredients, no grains and fillers are vegetables. Expensive but worth it if you have the time and money invested. Amazon carries it and ships free with Prime membership

What about purina puppy chow. Been used for generations.

We used IAMS as well...started with the puppy formula and he soon moved up to large breed. Pro Plan Plan came from the breeder with him and is good but not readily available

I used Purina Pro plan and Was happy with it.

If you have a Petco in your area go there. If the dog doesnt like the food or it upsets their stomachs Petco will take it back. Had to do this with my dogs until we found something they both will eat.

After 13 labs and 10 coondogs over the last 40 years, I can say Purina Puppy Chow is a great product. We have always fed them Puppy Chow till they were 1 to 1.5 yrs old. It has milk in the food which is great for growing bones. After a dog gets to be 18 months old, you can adjust to whatever adult dog food fits your dog and his/her activities.

On another note, I have heard good things and bad things about Iams. Think it matters a lot about the individual dog. I have always heard very few complaints about Purina products in general and seen some of the best field trial coondogs compete at unbelievable levels on nothing but straight Dog Chow. I have also fed some great adult dog foods that you rarely hear about for high performance type dogs (Black Gold, Purina Pro-Plan, Pro Pac). Good thing about Purina products IMO is that once you hit the off season or your dog goes through an inactive time period, you can swith to their standard feed and the dog does not seem to go through much of a feeding transition as when you sometimes switch feed. I am skiddish to ask some vets because you never know if it is a product they may be pushing. Talk to people on the dog forum. A lot of knowledge on there. I do not field trial labs but it is obvious there are some great dog people on this forum.

I switched to Science Diet Puppy because that's all I could get around here. It seems to agree with him more. I will stay on it until I can get somewhere that sells: Pro Plan, Blue Buffalo or Taste of the Wild.

Pro Plan would be my first choice but if not avail see if anyone is carrying Loyal..thats what i have been one for several yrs now and its great food

I feed mine Loyal as well.

Rick, where are you getting your Loyal? I get mine in Bolton from Gaddis & McLaurin. So far it is the best price I could find around here.

Eukanuba, Purina Pro Plan, Loyal are better and priced less than "Taste of the Wild".

Pro Plan Puppy, his sister is doing great on it! and his pappy is on Pro Plan Performance

That's what I plan on putting him on as soon as I can get to where some is.
